MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Tacho observation & rather sad question

Hi all,
I recently swapped out my old dynamo for a shiny new alternator. Previously, my SVC type Tacho had jumped about then stopped working , but started working every time I re started the car. With the alternator on, tacho works fine and has been no problem at all- do you think this is just coincidence?
Second question is a little bit sad but I'll ask anyway. I rather fancy " blinging" up my engine bay as my pedal box cover & the cover on the passenger footwell are a bit scabby, so I planned to replace with stainless steel as its shiny, but can only find stainless steel driver pedal box covers - does anyone know where I could get a stainless passenger footwell cover in stainless ?
Cheers all
Colin

does one not fit the other as a blank ? its just a guess

They are different.

Have you tried Ashley Hinton?
Dave O'Neill2

Ashley Hinton makes and sells both for the later cars - http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/ashleyhintonmgparts2002/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

there are a few bling parts that can dazzle when looking under the bonnet, they add a couple of hp but also loose a couple because of the extra weight :)

Nothing wrong with bling....

Absolutely nothing wrong with Bling. I'm adding a lot of stainless / chrome under the bonnet as I go along and have both of Ashley Hinton's covers - they appear on ebay regularly - I'm just waiting for him to produce a polished stainless heater bypass pipe. if you're going down this route it's well worth putting in some extra effort to clean up the rest of the parts. here's one of the pedalbox cover after I polished the cylinders and repainted the box itself. The new copper pipes don't spoil the look either :-).

where's it end though Graeme, I was almost tempted to point out a couple of possible concours point losses :)

the metal heater pipe is interesting as the last time I checked the main suppliers had the early pipe only despite listing it also as the later pipe and one wasn't prepared to pay Ashley Hinton enough to produce the correct one as the selling price would have been above what most tight fisted Spridget owners would pay

Nigel. If we were to go back in time Concours d'elegance simply meant getting the car looking it's absolute best and driving it around in a parade. Nothing to do with originality (and just as well looking at my car hah!)
graeme jackson

they do concours for non-original cars, some even allow bling

Hi
Thanks all for getting me to call Ashley Hinton.
got some covers coming from Ashley ( what a nice guy!)so will be " blinging up" over the festive period.
Wow graeme....I LIKE your car!! something to work towards ( but then , I'm happy my alternator is going OK!!)
Thanks all for your help over the last year.
cheers colin
