MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Weber DCD tech question. Starter plunger.

Being as there are some clever people on here, this is the best place to ask I reckon. And as some on here have a weber on a Spridget, it may be useful for others too.

This is a picture of the starter plunger components for a weber 28/36 DCD.

The split brass ring on the bottom right, is the locking washer that keeps the other 3 bits in the body of the carb.

That lock washer is missing from the weber on my Capri.

The engine actually runs quite well, even with the starter plunger no doubt jumping up and down, but it has a rough idle, runs rich, and I can't weaken it. I'm wondering if this is the cause.

Questions.
1). Is there a Weber DCD expert here, who can explain in simple english, what exactly the starter plunger does?

2). Is there anyone here who can tell where I can get the lock washer on it's own? The 4 combined are 30 quid. All I need is the lockwasher, but can't find a seller.

No takers huh?

Ok then, who sells BRASS SEEGER RINGS?

Hi Lawrence
Maybe you could use an E-clip to hold it in there
I've never got into how that bit works so can't really help-sorry
One thing that I have come accross a few times on these carbs is--
If it is running a bit rich at idle and it can't be adjusted out there is a chance that the secondary throttle shaft isn't returning completely back to the idle position - They get gunked up and when the secondary throttle is opened they don't fully return causing a slightly rich, rolly gurgly sort of idle condition
Might be worth a look
Also, depending on what model carb you have, some of them have a small breather diaphram under a little triangle shaped plate screwed onto the carb body with three screws - The diaphram in there gives up and lets the float bowl breather suck raw fuel (usually only a pin hole)but enough to stop you from adjusting the idle mixture back far enough --Usually if it is the diaphram causing the problem it will get to the stage that it will still run with the mixture screw screwed fully in
good luck

Also
These carbs have an idle jet on both sides and both need to be clear for good idle
Make sure they havn't been mixed up at some time as they are different sizes side to side
