MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Wheel Studs

Looking at changing wheel studs. MGOC Spares want £3.50 ea for NAM5645 the Minispares price is £1.80 ea but have none in stock, however they do have 21A2064 at £1.01 as an alternative, but they are 4mm longer. Has anyone used these as an alternative?
Pete Ottewell

the studs themselves should not be a problem but your closed-end wheel nuts might bottom out before tightening the wheel. Some careful measuring needed...
David Smith

Thank's Dave I'd thought of that, I could chop them down. I was more thinking of the fit in the hub. It would work out at a saving of £2.49 ea.
Pete Ottewell

Fit in the hub will be fine.

I used longer Mini studs with Minators, as the original studs didn't protrude far enough.

was that on an earlier models Dave as although I've never measured them (I remember the one and a half times rule) the wheel studs on my car look like there's plenty of thread for the (closed-end) wheel nuts with my Minators

I'm not sure.

The earlier (pre-Rostyle) studs were shorter. My racer was a 'bitsa' so I don't know what cars the hubs or axle came from. I remember fitting rear studs to the front hubs and Mini Cooper studs to the rears.

IF I remember (not that likely though) I'll measure the next time I take a wheel off (hopefully not in the near future)

I've not got any special measuring tools so will probably just use a long matchstick

Give these guys a ring - http://www.kebrell.co.uk

They used to buy up all the new old stock from Armstrong Fastenings (aka Atlas Bolt) when I worked at Atlas back about 2000, if they have stock it's might have come from one of the old Darlaston bolt makers Atlas, GSF, Rubery Owen - etc who made this stuff originally.

That looks like a useful place.
