MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Which mufler do you prefer ?

Evening gentlemen!
When I bought the car 1 1/2 years ago it was equipped with the double silencer GEX3369. I thought it was far to silent, the music was hardly audible.
I discarded the cans and bought the single silencer GEX3365. I sounds so good, I think.
But.....now well into the second Midget driving season it has begun to take the top of the pleasure. Now I (and the wife, not at least) think it's a little annoying when cruising.
So I bought the GEX3369 and fitted it.
I think though, that it does ot nfit that well, it's a little to visible and the wonderful, but on long terms annoying exhaust note is gone: No sound at all - like winding 1 1/2 year back, so the question:
Which systems / silencers do you prefer? Compromises ?
Jan

The pic.:
LH is the single silencer I have been driving with, I like it because the only thing visible is the end tube LH side.
....and the double silencer fitted today, in my eyes far to visible, heavy and with absense of sound

Maniflow....
Oggers

Minispares RC40.

Get Maniflow LCB manifold with custom made centre pipe and single silencer, then you can have the silencer filled to your desired, er, muffling.

I've got Maniflow LCB, custom centre pipe and standard size single box Mmaniflow silencer and it's too loud for country road and village use.

A lot depends on your carb intake, set up and type as to the noise coming out of the back too, even ignition timing.
Nigel Atkins

Oggers, it was my intention to fit a Maniflow LCB and a suitable silencer the past winter, but it became downgraded due overhaul of the front suspension steering overhaul and adaption of the Ford T9 gearbox.
It is still on my wish list for the next winter.
I just wanted to make a cheap solution for this season. I have been looking for a little universal centre silencer to use in combination with the single unit GEX3365 silencer, have found no one so far, thats why I fitted the GEX3369 double unit.
Rob, can you point out which og the RC40 silencer's you suggest?

Jan Kruber

On my frogeye, I always liked the maniflow system with an RC40 back box but it was always a bit of a bodge mounting the Rc40.i now have a complete maniflow system including the back box. Wr im very happyeith that.

Maniflow LCB manifold to Maniflow straight-through silencer. Breathes much better than the old across-the back system and sounds much better too, though I don't tend to do long journeys and my wife never goes in the car!

I think the Maniflow silencer's diameter is larger than yours and, with lowering blocks on the back, it's a bit tight between the shock absorber mounts and fuel tank - but it will go.
C Mee

Forgot to say - usually around 88 to 90dB at 4000 rpm when sound-checked at events.
C Mee

Yes i must add that the Maniflow round rear box has much less ground clearance than the oval RC40.
G Lazarus

I had a original nos ST rear silencer C-AHT-11. I had this remade in Stainless. I use a Mainflow manifold with standard stainless exhaust pipe. The C-AHT is dimensionally the same as the original frogeye but with larger inlet. It looks original and is about 95db at 4000 rpm.(S spec 1293) I don't find it at all annoying on long runs to Europe and indeed the wife often goes to sleep!
Bob Beaumont

Does any of you know the physical dimensions of the Maniflow Spridget Bullet silencer? If small enough, I could maybe insert it somewhere on the pipe and then refit the LH single box silencer I allready have.
I drove a test with the double silencers- the car sounds like a Tesla!
That’s definitively too less sound, I would like it to sound line an MG, without being too loud, though
Jan Kruber

Old LCB (Maniflow or Janspeed, can't recall now), 2" straight pipe under back axle then bent up a few degrees, single RC40 in-line on the end with tailpipe angled to kerbside.

Nice rumble, but not too loud and no need for centre boxes.

I had similar problems with my MGA, which is supercharged. With the standard exhaust it was deafeningly loud. I went to demon weeks and bought one of these and spliced it in. Quiet causing and yet when I use the loud pedal, the music us quite gratifying but not deafening

with the small diameter of a midget exhaust you may need to ass a couple of these as well

Hi Jan

I used an rC40 from minispares - www.minispares.com

I'ts a bit fiddly to fit but does fit just. it's between 90 and 95 dB at 5000 rpm depending on the venue.

Dominic
Sounds like what Im out for for a quick fix
Jan Kruber

Rob
It was my intentions to have full Maniflow fitted last winter, other task took over though and the project was postponed to next winter.
Im looking for a cheap quick fix like the one Dominic suggest
