MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Windscreen bottom seal.

I've tried every which way to get the bottom frame to body seal fitted, but no matter what I do, it just pops out again after getting about three or four inches into the slot. Am I missing something, is there a "technique", is there a special tool, what am I doing wrong? I've got the new glass and seal in and the frame built up, but I just can't get the bottom seal in the slot, so I can't fit it to the car. Any ideas?
Thanks as always.
Bernie.

Bernie,
are you sure it's the correct seal or seal profile, or there could be a technique or tool but sorry I don't know.

Best put which model/year too for answers.

Cheers.

On my frog I slid mine in from one end using copious quantities of washing-up-liquid as a lubricant. It was a struggle still I recall.

Mine is a '65, but all cars with wind up windows have the same seal.
Lubrication is not a problem, I'm using Mr Muscle glass cleaner.

Nigel. With regard to the correct profile, it looks correct, but I have a feeling that the T section which goes into the T shaped slot is too small, that's why it pops out again, just as the windscreen glazing seal was too small, but I managed to get round that problem.

Bernie,
sorry I'm extremely pleased to say I've avoided the windscreen so don't know about the seals only that it seems often profiles are wrong.

I know for certain that the profile for the header rail seal can be different or not work well without a bit of tucking in because that's what happens on mine.

I was only thinking of the year of car as the Frogeye screen is in threads at the moment.

I do sometimes wonder if using lubricants can also hinder as well as ease some jobs, easier to go in and come out again.
Nigel Atkins

Well, I eventually managed it.
I used two compression straps with plenty of lube. I started in the middle and moved to the left leaving about two inches between each strap, then leapfrogging, keeping one tight while I applied the next one. Then back to the middle and moved to the right. I had to go back a couple of times, then when I'd finished I went along the whole length tapping it with a rubber mallet to snug it down. I've left it overnight to let the lube dry out, then I have to try and fit it to the car. Not looking forward to that. I'll use the compression straps again a'la Guy's method wrapped around the door hinge.

I hope this description helps others who may be considering changing their screen glass and seals. It turned out to be a right PITA.

Bernie.
