MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Wiper Blades et al

Hi all

My wipers are rubbish, are the replacement blades from the mgoc etc any good?

Also, how do you get the wiper to sit tighter to the screen, mine has virtually no resistance when I pull them away from the screen.

Rylan,
have a look in the Archives - I and others found neither new arms or blades to be any good no matter where you get them from (if they're the same make)

suggestion is to get normal replacement rubbers and fit them to existing blades

don't worry about the tension, or lack, of the arms as long they hold the wipers to the screen whilst in use

The wipers esp the 3 wiper is just for looks, there not actualy funtional

Besides its a midget, its not supposed to be outside in the rain, it needs to be in a climate controled water proof shop with a nice soft tarp covering it

Besides cutting a modern rubber blade down to fit the arms, the other thing you can do is adjust the attack angle so the rubber turns over nicely after each wipe. This is really important because the 3 arms are the same shape, but their angle on the glass is not, so adjusting them for smooth turn over will greatly improve their ability to wipe.

Adjust with two wrenches, one to hold the rest of the arm still and the other one to twist the end.

Use two small adjustable wrenches to avoid gouging with the toothed jaws of pliers.

Norm,
I understand and agree with blades not turning smoothly, do you mean to to twist the ends of the (two over here) arms so that the ends are parallel with the windscreen?
Nigel Atkins

I think norm means the ... swing path for lack of a better term

But I like his "attack angle" term

In other words if you line up all 3 blades the same, they wont do very well as a whole but if you find the sweet spot for each blade its much more productive as a unit

Not sure that helps

from what someone else has put on here before it seems to be more to do with the rubber part of the blades not sitting right on the screen and then the same on reverse wipe where the other side of the rubber runs on the screen

the whole metal part of the blades seem too flimsy for proper purpose and are about effective in use as a fart in a colander

Halfords sells rubbers only (at a low price)
