MG MG Y Type - 2017 anniversary banner

Paul.
I like the new banner for our cars anniversary year. Great design, I'm now looking forwards to events reports and photos from across the globe of Y Type anniversary events. Even the Owners club started off the year with a nice article featuring Peter Arnell's YB.
Keep up the superb work.

And in this month's MG Enthusiast, editor Simon Goldsworthy, admitted to hankering after a Y Type. How about that for raising the profile?
R Taylor

Thank you Richard for the nice words about the redesign on the Home page - nothing radical though but we wanted to do something a bit different and yes I too am looking forward to the up coming Australian event as Dave Lawrence and I will both be traveling to it.

And yes, Simon Goldsworthy is indeed interested in acquiring a Y ... after many years of my encouragement in that direction so hopefully he will locate a good one soon and we will see a lot about Ys in MGE! which is a great magazine already.

Yes Paul, I agree with Richard Knight. That is a nice touch to celebrate our 70th Anniversary.
According to Let There Be Y's Page 13 that is the first production car to be exported. It was destined for Malta, which is my Birth Country. See you in Maleny in June.
T J Ciantar

In the original of the photograph that I used to create the marquee on the home page the tag in the windscreen of the first Y clearly state MALTA as the destination Terry!

Robert / Paul,

That is excellent news to hear about Simon Goldsworthy wanting a Y Type, what better publicity from arguably the top MG Magazine.

I believe strongly that Y Type Owners forget how very lucky collectively we all are to have access to a wealth of data on Y Types on the site www.mgytypes.org I don't know of any other site so well maintained on a particular classic car model, that covers just about everything one would need, that does not charge for the priviledge, or that does not come with host of pop up ads, for example the car clubs Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/mgoneandaquarterlitre/ that tries to get users to sign up to Facebook account and has a very restrictive banner across the screen, how annoying.

Credit to Paul and those who bother to contribute to help build the knowledge we all now have on the Y type. I was looking back to the early editions of the site www.mgytypes.org to 2007 and it is amazing how much additional info is now known compared to the site at that time. It makes working on the car so easy, if you need technical information, do quick search and you have the answer, saving time on looking through the many workshop manuals or books to find the answer.
Thank you Paul / David and all the other collective contributors that continue to make it all possible.

Thank you Richard.

I can remember when I started this on 14 April 2002 and we had 15 short pages - see http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/oldnews/april02news.shtml and the first entry for 14 April 2002!

It has been great to see the continued growth of the site and we intend to continue to provide a vibrant free service to all MG Y owners and lovers worldwide. Strong credit to all the International Representatives who continue to provide a very valued local contact and free service too. Thank you too to all the very valued contributions from you the MG Y owners too.

We do carry a small amount of advertising and sincerely hope that it does not get in the way of your enjoyment of the cars or the site. Please continue to support those valued vendors who support us.

Happy 2017 to you all,

Paul

Paul Richard,
Nice to click on that inaugural page It reminds me of my first ever Spring Run to Broughton Castle in my newly acquired YT back in 2002. Paul was with Mike silk walking round looking at all the cars telling everyone about the new register website that was going on line that day. It has certainly had some history since then and has grown into an excellent resource for everyone.
Another regularly updated and well maintained resource that Richard refers to in a slightly disparaging way is the car clubs Face Book Page. The banner for it is a superb photo of Ys crossing a ford on a Spring Run. It is run by Neil Cairns the highly respected and most prolific writer on all things Y. He answers technical questions and keeps the page vibrant with all sorts of interesting Y relevant news. If you aren’t keeping a regular eye on it you are missing out. The only incentive to sign up for face book is if you want to make a comment about one of the postings. Go on Richard sign up you know you really do want to make some comments.
It may have been noted that www.mgccyregister.co.uk is slowly springing back into life. My daughter has volunteered to be editor. It is the other main resource for Y owners that is also free for all users and contains a very creditable technical page.
One wonders how restorations were carried out pre social media, we certainly are very fortunate as Y owners to have such a wealth of information at our fingertips.

Peter,

I do find the content interesting on the Facebook page, but find the banner that appears stating:

"See more of MGCC Y Register by logging in to Facebook
Message this Page, learn about upcoming events and more. If you don't have a Facebook account, you can create one to see more of this Page. You get three options to Sign Up, Log In or Not Now" Final option which takes the banner to the bottom of the screen, but it will not go away. I understand it is Facebook's policy to try to get users to sign up for an account, but personally I'm no fan of FB and refuse to create profile on this particular site, which therefore makes viewing the content less than easy.

Richard,
When you create a profile on FB you are free to leave all your profile details blank but its your prerogative to do as you wish.
Personally I Like to support all Y initiatives with positive comments.
