MG MG Y Type - Another Scam !!!!!!!!!!!!

Beware folks there is another idiot out there who thinks we're all stupid. Similar to previous scams this one offers to send an overpayment by cheque & asks you to send the difference to cover shipping costs.

Below is a copy of the giveaway e-mail - note the name folks & DO NOT fall for this!!!

hello ,
Thanks very much for the reply and God bless. .
Since you are saying the right thing about the MG i'm ok.
I need the it badly. Well, not to waste time becos i need It urgently.
i quite agreed to pay £750 for it becos of the urgency in need of it.
But this is how we are going to seal the transaction becos of delays and fastness.
There is one of my assosiates in the UK, who is oweing me the sum of £4,000 in which i will ask him to issue a cashier check or Money Order of the total money oweing me to you and you will deduct the
total cost of the item and send the balance to me via MoneyGram .The reason why i am doing this is because a check sent within UK
especially Money Order clears almost immediately.Concerning the
shipping i've a shipping firm here that will just come for the pick up after the payment becos they are cheaper and faster and i've been dealing with them for years.
But the only thing is for you to send the balance so as to pay them for thepick up.
Kindly promise to send the balance to me becos i'm doing this transaction on trust level .
I'm a Man of God with faith and honest. So if this offer is okay by you send me your contact information(name and address) to which my assosiate will address the check to .. so that everything will be ready in time..
Thanks once again as i await your response.Greetings to your family.Have a niceday.
Regards
Mr ALFERD MACINTOSH.

I had one of these too after advertising parts for sale on this website. It seems to be a money laundering scam of some sort. Beware!

Talking of scams, I feel I should spread the word on something that happened to me a year ago.
I advertised a concourse winning Rover P3 in a classic car magazine and was subsiquently contacted by a person who claimed to be from the Rover car club in Sydney. After chatting for 5 or so minutes he just happens to mention that he'd just returned from Perth where he'd visited a small motor museum that was looking for a P3 but were only able to swap for a Sunbeam Talbot 1948 which was " better than the one that sold last month for $12,000". He gave the car such a good report that I (stupidly) took his unbiased word for it. I polished up my Rover and knocked back a second offer for $9,000 and sent it to Perth. Well,I couldn't beleive my eyes when the Sunbeam had to be pushed off the transporter.Without going on too much more,I'll just say it didn/t run at all, tyres were retreads and all worn, seats in badly discoloured and torn vinyl, all chrome rusted, electrics in bad need of rewiring, steering wheel extremely cracked and broken, etc etc. However, I did manage to off-load it for $2000.I know I was stupid but I would like to make others aware.

Ken,

If your brave enough to admit you where stupid, you can't be that stupid!

Thanks for the warning.

As a further warning I was contacted by a Mr. Calaghan from Cambridgeshire who came to view my Austin 12/4.
He offered me a good price but couldn't pay a deposit just yet! He would pay a deposit in a week or so and could he then take the car and pay the balance later?
I never heard from him again after I refused to let it go before full cleared payment. There was a time I might have fallen for this.

I am currently selling my MG MGB GT and have had a number of very badly spellt email, with all letters in lower case and using very bad grammar.

Sorry if what I am about to say may seem racist, or even discriminatory against those challenged by language, any language, but in times like this I do not even grace them with a reply - I just bin their email - they then try again a week later. Sorry - but I don't wish to give the car away!

Do not even release a car on reciept of a Bankers draft - these are forged these days. Be prepared to offer Escrow accounts - your bank will sort you out, for a fee which you can share 50:50 with the seller.

Good luck,

Paul

Bank drafts can be checked. When I bought my MGA a few years ago, I paid by Bank Draft and the seller confirmed with the bank that they had issued such a draft and the numbers on the cheque.

As I was collecting on a Saturday, after talking to the bank I phoned the numbers through to the vendor, he confirmed them with the bank and checked them when I arrived.
