MG MG Y Type - Bonnet Rest Tape

Can anyone advise me of the width of the original bonnet rest tape used on out cars please.

I believe Paul Beck sells this and also Woolies Trim too - both are listed on the Links page at www.mgytypes.org so let me know if you have further problems sourcing this Rob and I will look into this further for you.

Hi Rob,

The bonnet rest tape is 1/2" x 1/8" I have used rubber supplied by moss on my MG TD however I used a woven material on my MGYA however I can't remember where I got it from. Unfortunately this then posers another question which is the original????
I have attached both pics

I believe the woven fabric is correct for the earlier T series cars (including the early Y types). TC & earlier owners state that the fabric is correct. As the Y types were contemporary with both the TC & TD & as Chris Couper believes the TD's originally sported the rubber strip (citing evidence from many early American barn finds), perhaps there was a change during the production of the Y types. However if I was to use the rubber strip on my TD just about everybody here would say this was incorrect! Most, if not all, TD's here in Oz use the khaki/green woven material which has almost always been sourced from Sportsparts, a local M.G. supplier. This has certainly been the case since the late 60's. Very, very rare to see a TD here with rubber, in fact I've never seen one! I suppose the jury is still out but my vote would be for the woven khaki/green fabric on the Y's & also on the TD's, certainly on the early ones. Cheers

Thanks guys,

I had found the various sources for the tape but was not sure whether the narrow 13mm was used or the wider variety which would need to be 'encouraged' through the holes.

13mm it is then.

Thanks again
