MG MG Y Type - boot puzzle

Dear all

How do I get the wooden boot floor into place? Do I need to cut in half and fit a sheet metal strip in order to bolt it together, once it is in place?

Cheers
Anton Y/T 4220

Hi Anton,
You need to remove the back seat and insert the boot floor from the front.

Tony

PS - I will get you the details for your seat rails in the morning.

Hi Tony

Apparently the Y/T is different from the Y & YB (see attachment): It still looks as if I have to cut the board in half :o)

Carl Wellencotter let me know just know, that on page 126 of LTBYs, a split floor panel of a Y/T is shown. Thank you Carl.

The pieces should be lipped Anton. Cant remember the dimensions but I have an original in my YT (which isnt at my house currently).

Paul, since the board was cut to size, before I realized it had to be split, I recessed the plywood and fitted a strip of 2mm sheet metal to join the two halves.

Back to this subject. Our YT has a one piece boot floor, which is why I was confused about the two piece solution.
On investigation it has the ear removed from the LH side that fills in the corner.
This makes it just short enough to get through the boot opening.
I don't know if this is an original pattern, but the missing ear provide excellent storage gap for a 1 litre bottle of top up engine oil for long trips.

Tony, you'll need that space for the trip to Perth, WA!!
Steve Brompton

Why not bring your YT along as well for the run to Perth - you know you want to !!..

I understand the local Y-Typers are keen to see some eastern cars and are organising a post Nat Meet Tour.

Come On .....
