MG MG Y Type - Choke Cable

I have four choke cables, collected over the years but they are all different lengths. Can anyone tell me how long they should be?
Thanks Rob

Hi All
Have reached a point where I need to connect the choke cable . I cannot remember back to when I stripped it but I now find that the inner cable is to short so needs to be replaced .
Does anyone know where I can locate a length of suitable wire , it needs to be approx. 1.5mms dia and 900mms long, solid not twisted.
I am based in Worcestershire in the UK.
Thanks in anticipation for any help

If memory serves me, I replaced the inner cable with piano wire. Had to unsolder the stranded cable and soldered the piano wire in with silver solder.

The cable needs to be long enough to reach LOL!!

On a more serious note though, it depends on if you have a standard Y/YB, or twin carburettors/YT though.

NTG will be able to supply you with the correct length for whichever application you are running though as I cannot recall the various lengths of hand either.

Hi Rob, welcome back to the Y community have you bought a YT, plenty of room for your legs, or just sorting out all the spares. The important thing with the cable is to have the correct pull knob for a Y.

Thank you gentlemen. Mine is a standard YA with the original octagon knob. I realised that i would have to drillout and solder in the new wire ,but didnt know that NTG sold just the cable , thanks Paul .
Neither had i thought of piano wire , thanks CR.
Just for info the length of the standard inner cable would be around 30 inches or 760mms.

Thanks again John B

Just to follow up on this , i used piano wire from a hobby supplier. Heat it up, pull it out, push the new clean one in . Sorted in a few minutes. John B
