MG MG Y Type - Collectability

How do the Y type Salons stack up amongst all the older MG from the TD to the MGB in reference to there collectabilty..Or is this an "apple to oranges" kind of thing..I love the Salons but wondered if I am in the minority...Thanks...M

Call me biased if you like, I have a YA Sedan and 2 YT Tourer (both under restoration), but they are neat.

You wont strike it rich in terms of $ return on investment in a Y, but they are great cars to drive. Equally the were built 55 years ago on average, so dont expect to go cruising down Highway 1 in one.

Email me off line if need more info.

You are asking in the wrong place !!
Most if not all of the correspondents on this Y-type bulletin board are obsessives.
Of course they are wonderful cars. As Plato once said,MG Y-type mea testes canis est.

Perhaps for those of us who have never experienced Roman occupation - or at least cannot remember it if we did - can you translate please?

Thanks

A mere mortal!

Paul,
My latin lessons ended over 40 years ago in the second year,so don't bank on this; furthermore, Andrew Coulson who is better educated than you and me says that Plato was a Greek.
Anyway, roughly, very roughly translated, it means
" My MG Y-type is the dog's Bo***cks".

Y-Types are not in demand like other models of M.G. cars. That doesn't mean they are not an absolute pleasure to own, just that they are more of a specialty market car. It is unlikely they will ever command high prices so as Paul says, forget about making money on one.

Thanks Michael!

And to complete Steve's comment I found an idea film clip I am working on getting permission from the BBC for use of (though dont hold out too much hope) from the Miss Marple 'Murder at the Vicarage' where the doctor drives up to a pedestrian, and through the open window of his YA says "Enjoyment is the key".

Now ... what better endorsement do you want! A doctor no less - OK he was acting!!! But the truth is there for all to see and hear.

I'm still trying to squeeze my YB into a TV shoot. One of these days a shoot will be short a car and I'll get it in there.

Marvin - I have a TF and my wife has a YT so we have a foot in each 1945-55 MG camp. My observation these days is that the T series are not being used as much as Y series cars therefore owners must be getting more enjoyment from the Y saloons and tourers than the sports cars. Also every owner seems to want the sports cars to look as though they have just come out of the factory (or better, which is retro step as far as I am concerned) while many Y owners are happy to drive a tidy car and get as much pleasure as if it was fully restored.

Thanks for the words of wisdom...I thought about what you said and totally agree....Best wishes, Marvin
