MG MG Y Type - Correct angle of brake pedal on shaft?

Folks, I've just successfully set up the pedal box assembly with new pedal shaft, rebushed arms, fiddly spring for brake pedal return, etc. ... stood back to admire my work, and then realised that whereas I have the clutch pedal arm more-or-less at the vertical, my brake pedal sits at plus 10 degrees (ie forward leaning). There remain about 30 degrees of travel, or 4 inches for the brake pedal to move - plenty I think, but I'm seeking advice as to whether the brake pedal should definitely be assembled on the spindle nearer the vertical? - clearly now would be the time to disassemble and get it right, but I'm hoping to avoid it! With thanks ... John.

Y Sheet 5 The Pedal Box may be of interest.
From memory both my cars have the clutch and brake roughly in same position.

The Sheet from the MGCC Y Register probably would be helpful, but is this info only available for sale? - for example, R.E., would you care to let me know what sort of angle your brake pedal sits at?? Thanks again ... John.

John
As Richard says they should both be more or less vertical so if they arent then that is where you need to be.

With the brake 'leaning forward' that will actually make for a more awkward accelerator to brake transition for your right foot.

I would suggest you reset the pedal to an upright position.

Paul, you make a very good point - thanks for reminding me. Not seeing the wood for the trees - the same trees that will go past in a blur as I heel-to-toe around the local country lanes! Tonight's job looks like a careful withdrawal of brake pedal and repositioning on the splines. There's no getting away from it - and I would have regretted not doing it, for years to come. Regards, John.

Hi John

the leaflet coats 2GBP I think it's only a single sheet. Mike Silk may be prepared to scan and email it to you and you just forward the cash. His email address is on the Y Register Regalia Website.

Hope this helps
sincerely

Jerry,

Surely the cost (commission & fees) of conversion of AUS Dollars to purchase 2 sterling would make this cost ineffective for John.

I am sure for "Y type community spirit, good will and all seasons soon to be festive" the author Neil Cairns would waive his royalty,(Yes, I was joking!) and he could be sent an electronic copy?

Even sending two quid via UK mail or paypal would cost more to process the payment I guess LOL. And MGCC Y Register would have been seen to have done favour for our distant friends.

Not sure if the TD and Y pedal boxes are the same, but you may be interested in the various documents on Bud's "ttalk" website, especially this one

Also have you considered Mike O'Connor's "Clutch linkage fix" http://www.ttalk.info/ClutchLinkageFix.pdf

Richard, I'll contact the MGCCYR with a view to ordering several items as a job lot. Thanks for your concern about the cost. Stuart, Hi from FNQ - I really enjoyed the articles you linked, and am the wiser for the detail in them. I'm going to re-set the brake pedal to sit level with the clutch pedal, as I should have realised was necessary in the first place! I'm only 62, so plenty of time to learn! regards, John.
