MG MG Y Type - Cyclists

Come on lads don't be too heavy on us cyclists. Most that is the ones who you dont notice, [sometimes at their peril], ride within the rules and observe the regulations. While a few could'nt care less about anyone and hazard pedestrians just as much as motorists, then there are others 'the greens'who ride 4 abreast down country roads full of self righteousness. Just think what these people are like when they get to drive a car. I can say as a cyclist that many motorists are inconsiderate, drive too close and turn into you as if you don't exist. The cyclist will always come off the worse in any collision so many of us ride defensiously, I for one always slightly wobble maybe only a foot or so to alert other traffic that I am there. Its a pity that some motorists think that the highway code is a joke only for whimps!
Bryan

Bry, I agree with you completely.
I find the F at 6,000rpm (K&N +SS exhaust) gets them out of the road tho.
Failing that, plenty of abuse helps.

As a driver and life-long cyclist, I can say with absolute certainty that there are far more inconsiderate and rude drivers on the road than bicyclists. Nothing is gained by showing a lack of courtesy on the roads to anyone in any type of vehicle.

Good to hear from 'Cae ar y bryn o aur' and thanks for your support Diolch yn fawer

PS I'm newcomer to Cymru, only been here 45 years - I shall soon be taking my oath of allegiance

Huh? Did your fingers slip over a couple keys?

As a post script to my cycling appeal here is something to contemplate. While this bulletin board should never be used to expound political views I therefore will try to be objective. I understand there are plans to invite at least another 15 million friends to join us by 2030 [my MP hasn't denied it]. As for driving our Y types, well it could be reduced to a trip up the garden and back. I foresee that for journeys of up to 100 miles that the bicycle will be recommended since it will take less than 8 hours. Be nice to cyclists!

I've been cycling since I was 5 years old. I am now retired and STILL cycling. Once the roads were safe; today they are full of inconsiderate motorists who think they own the road. The number of times I have been 'overtaken' by cars, who then 'pull in' BEFORE they have fully passed me I have lost count of. There are a lot of cars round here with dents in their rear near-side panels, where I have kicked them! Seven times in 5 years I was knocked off, once with VERY serious results, ( I am now 20% functionally disabled because of a bloody motorist who failed to obey the rules at a boxed junction; she hit me at 30mph side-on as she came out of a side road, smashing lots of my bones. I had not a chance.) Hence my rather less than polite attitude towards motorists.

There are fools on bikes and fools in cars, why do they not hit each other, instead of those of us who obey the Highway Code? If you are ever in Leighton Buzzard, and find yourself behind an aged, grey beared cyclist who inists on being in the MIDDLE of his lane, it will be me. No longer do I cycle in the gutter, you get knocked off to often. The last time was last year by a Gas Board van reversing at me on my side of the road. He hit me as I dived off my bike, smashing my front wheel and forks. His first words were, " Where on earth did you come from?" Mine where, " What is your bloody rear-view mirror for Chum?"

On no occasions has the Police taken any of the motorists who hit me to court. They just got a £120 one-day driving course, so their licences are still clean, even though they tried to kill me.

Why do you hold back, Neil?

Tell it like it is and you'll feel better.
Michael

Neil,
May I invite you to come to Holland and we'll enjoy our beautiful country from flat, smooth bicycle lanes, isolated from other traffic? They even changed the law to forbid mopeds on the bicycle lanes. (you will have to earn your keep by doing some light spannering on my Y though...)
