MG MG Y Type - DISTRIBUTOR APPLICATION FOR Y TYPES

Hi all,
Some advice please. What is the difference between the correct DKY H4A distributor for our cars and a DK H4A model.

I have been offered a NOS unit of the latter type, but am not sure about the application for our Y Types.

Any ideas or where I can check? I am sure somebody will have all the necessary specifications in their file. Thanks in advance, Keith

Hi Keith, Have a look at the TTypes.org website run by John James - there are a number of Lucas Specification documents available there for download that should answer your question.

cheers

I'm not able to delve into my distributor-information now, but if it really is a NOS-item you can always buy it for the unworn body and shaft? All depends on price of course.

Ideally every distributor should be tailored, with the help of a rolling road session, for your particular engine in the state of tune it is now (compression/camshaft etc.) and for modern fuels.
The variables are the spring, the weights and the cam (with several 'base-degrees'). The body and shaft should be the same, apart from a length difference that is fixed with a spacer.

And here is apoor photo showing the length difference in the shaft TC/YT versus YA.

The dizzy on the left is a DKYH4A 40089A fitted as standard on YA, the dizzy on the right is a DKY4A 40048D which belongs in a TC (the YT is similar being 40162A).

The spacer washer in between is fitted to the YT in place of the vernier on the TC to keep the dizzy and camshaft gear in line.

If you have a TC or YT distributor in your YA, make sure you check you have the spacer washer.

Thanks guys. I'll do some digging and see what I come up with.

Glad you got good results Jerry and thank you for letting usknow. Sounds as good as the rebuild job Masaaki Sakaguchi did on my distributor to original specification.
