MG MG Y Type - Early Y-Type on E-bay

There is an early YA on E-bay,item No 4551157606 in nearly complete original condition!
J.Korreck

Hope this isnt the original condition they came out of the factory in! It is certainly pretty unrestored that's a given, possibly even over priced given the condition on the opening price. See

There are clearly bits missing, but nothing that I personally haven't got in my spares bin I dont think if someone did want to rescue it. I wonder what the real chassis number is?
Paul Barrow

It does have an Export air-filter and I could sure use the unmolested doors, wheels, bootlid, swc, etc., etc..

Would this car be worth restoring? What do you think?
Willem van der Veer

Of course its worth restoring - we don't want any more Ys broken for spares...we had enough of that with the T type owners in the past surely. Let's hope it finds a good home.
David Mullen

Maybe its worth restoring, but is there anybody that wants to do it? I failed to sell my wife's YA a couple of years ago- no real interest- so it just sits awaiting its fate! One of my YBs was scrapped last year to enable the restoration of a T type, whilst the other is part restored, but is it worth completing?( Its parts value is probably a lot more than as a complete car!)
Dave Gibson

Can anyone tell me if there is a suitable place to install the sensor for a water temperature gauge on the XPAG.
Michael Nicholson

It can be restored I would guess. The photos are not good enough to be able to assess how bad the rear end is. I would say if the opening price were lower it would be worth bidding on up to its current opening price on pure speculation. However, opening at the price it is, and in the condition that it would appear to be in (and there are no detailed pictures of the inside on eBay so I would suggest you get many more photos and actually go and look at the car too)it would appear to have been reasonably well dry stored for a long period of time. It will require extensive work and expense but it could be done. Bear in mind this is an early side battery box car and therefore somewhat slightly rarer than the average YA but also look with your eyes and not your heart. It is very easy to say lets not loose any more Y Types - but someone needs to be prepared to fund a statement like that and actually buy them all! That will not be easy - take for instance that Australian one that was on eBay recently in the tall grass! It was only about 10 GBP but didnt sell! Good luck if you go for it - I may be able to assist with a decent glove box for it!
Paul Barrow

For interest the car is chassis number Y 1143 - that makes it about car 893 off the line!
