MG MG Y Type - Favourite Car - Vote now...

This BBC Oxford link asks for you to vote on your favourite car and includes the option of the MG Y type - I havec already voted (despite living miles from Oxford....)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/oxford/content/articles/2006/09/05/austin.shtml
David Mullen

Me too! Its easy to vote on and the Y has 2% of the 502 votes cast now so come on everyone - lets beat the VW van!!

Paul
Paul Barrow

Come on the rest of you.....poll closes tonight I think.
David Mullen

Vote, vote, vote. It's at number 2 now with 20% of 800 votes.
P S Sharp

951 votes, 23% NR.1 ahead of the VW van! They don't say when the voting stops, so keep on voting for the Y
Willem van der Veer

I've voted, but they might get suspicious about so many Y's in Oxford...
Neil Cairns

Well if they only want a local response ... dont post it on the web!!

Currently at 23% of 953 or 220 votes! I tried to vote twice from my PC and couldnt but I was able to record a second vote (for Sara of course) from her PC!

Get all your friends at work to log into it and vote for the Y too - this will be a fun one to win in the 60th year of the Y!

Is the car shown known to us ?
David Mullen

<<Is the car shown known to us ?>> Yes it is? I guess it is Y0364, look at http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgccy/yaparade.htm :

Current owner, John Harris, Oxfordshire, UK.
Willem van der Veer

VW van closing in at 21% ...
David Mullen

I too voted
Richard Knight

987/24%.... VW back on 20%
Willem van der Veer

I too have cast my vote for the Y Type, although I was almost tempted by the Aston Martin, less so by the Allegro!
Andrew Adamson

Vote cast. COULD ONLY VOTE ONCE THOUGH!
Pat Kiely

Doing good now!

Can someone (in the UK???) phone Radio Oxford and find out how much longer this survey will be going for please?

Meanwhile, if you havent voted ... for the Y yet, please do - dont want to be beaten by a VW camper van do we!!

Cheer
Paul Barrow

Looks like the last time the page was updated was 5 months ago. Long poll!
Steve Simmons

Another vote! Surprised other car clubs haven't caught on. First submission but love the chat. Always look when I log on to the main site.
Graham Mack

Dunno Graham, but what I do see is that we are storming ahead with 26% versus 19% for the VW!!

Fun stuff!

Paul
Paul Barrow

My vote is in and it looks like 26% (1st place!).
Ron Chiste

Looks like there has been a surge on the VW Van in the last few days.

If there have been 1243 respondants and the VW Van has 29% that means that it has had about 360 votes. By comparison the Y has 22% or 273 votes so we are 86 behind now!

Time to go out and get all your friends and office co-workers to vote on it now!!

The webpage has some smart technology that seems to recognise the IP of a computer so you cannot vote twice from the same computer! I will try to track down and crack it so that we can vote twice - there cannot be more folk who like the VW to the Y surely!

Paul
Paul Barrow

Success!

I have hacked the code - the page installs a cookie on your computer in a file called Cookie:[your user name]@bbc.co.uk/.

You can get round this by (in Internet Explorer) using Tools, Intenet Options, Delete Cookies, or if you are brave - go into your Windows Explorer and you can delete the specific file by going to the C: drive, and then to whatever file or folder your cookies are stored in (you can see the path in Internet Explorer, Tools, Temporar Internet files, and Settings) and then deleting the file from there.

Paul
Paul Barrow

That's correct, Paul. Sites that require a login will keep track of who has voted and who has not. That way a user name cannot vote twice. However on public sites like that one, it is controlled by cookies. If you want to "fudge" the results a bit there is an easier way. Set your browser to refuse cookies from that site. You should be able to enter as many votes as you like in rapid succession.
Steve Simmons

Steve - you naughty boy, what have you been up to? The Y is in 1st place with 40%!!! That should take some catching!

:-)

Paul
Paul Barrow

Who, me? :}
Steve Simmons

Pleaze vill you stop zis illegal votink vor zet zorry little car of yours; ve can do ze same vor our bus!
Ve have many ways to vote here!
bulliboy

You can always be relied upon to inject humour into a post Willem - thank you for your contribution (immediate above) however your PC left its foot prints for us to follow you home!

Ve hav vays of finding you out!
Paul Barrow

Who, me? That's what you get with size 12.....

Willem van der Veer

I just voted too, once only of course, then thought WOW how well the Y community was mobilized. Now I read the above postings about tweaking the poll: If this were a political election, UN commissioners would set in and call the election off for corruption ! I don't think this was a funny idea, it perverts the whole idea of a poll. Sorry to spoil the party, perhaps I am too Swiss with my concept of democracy "one (wo)man - one vote".
Remo Peter

Voted for the Y a while back. Seems @ 41% we have lapped the field. Maybe we should also aid our stable mate P Type....

Paul
YB/TDs/TF/etc.
Paul

Remo, don't worry to much about it. The vote was from last year september or so, I think we Y-owners (and some misleaded VW busdrivers) are the only ones watching?
Willem van der Veer

The poll is long since done with. There is no more sense in voting as there is for the poll to still be active.
