MG MG Y Type - Felt grease retainer

A couple questions regarding the front hubs.
Would anyone have the measurements of the rubber o ring that’s used to replace the front hub felt grease seals or has anyone replaced the front hub wheel bearings with sealed bearings to stop the grease leakage.

Steven Koster

Hi Steven, I my experience, sealed front wheel bearings work just fine. Certainly no leakage of grease and no issues with reliability. Regards, Ewan

Hi Steven and Ewan

My YT has ben sitting on garage stands for a couple of years but had the front hubs done up by a local specialist. Car hasn't been on road since. I thought I had a wheel cylinder leak, but on inspection it looks like the right side inboard seal is leaking onto the back plate.

Any comments and advice would be appreciated. Could it have just been an excess of grease on the stub axle or in the hub at assembly?

(Car restoration has taken even longer than Anton's, still have dash board to do. Health may mean I won't finish it even. But the journey has been rewarding.)

Hello Kevin,
The grease leakage on my hub wasn’t from the rear seal it was from the felt front outer seal. I found a used felt seal in my spares and put that in as a trial, hasn’t leaked since.

I have some here I believe. How many do you need?

I am using sealed bearings Front & Rear with good results.
