MG MG Y Type - Flashing indicators with semaphores

Does anyone have information and/or wiring diagram to get flashing indicators to work with the semaphores, all controlled from the steering wheel switch. It would be preferrable if the semaphores did not go up and down with the winkers !!

I saw a car with flashing semaphores a few years ago. The semaphores stood steady and the lights in them blinked. I can't remember what car it was and didn't get any details on how it was done.

You need the Y Data sheet available from Regalia Michael on Fitting Flashing Indicators.

The modification is easy enough to do.

In order to operate the Trafficators and the indicators concurrently you will need to acquire two of the Lucas Flasher units (FL5 or similar) that were fitted to most British cars of the 60s & 70s. Thses can be easily mounted on lower bulkhead where the terminal connecting unit is located. The Steering Column slip ring has four terminals, 1 for the horn, 1 for the feed and 1 for each trafficator; these are both green, one with a white tracer and one with a red tracer.

Take a feed from each of these trafficator terminals to each of the flasher units. The flasher units have three terminals and 1 will be redundant on each. Then take a feed from one side of the flasher unit to each pair of indicators. The trafficators can then be operated at the same time as the indicator units, using the same trafficator switch on the steering column.

If you have not already done so, there are twin filament bulb conversions for the Lucas 1130 sidelights. These enable you to operate sidelights and indicators concurrently. However, orange indicator units are recommended for the rear of the car.

I hope this helps.

My Y came with fitted twin filament bulbs in my Lucas 1130 sidelights but I am now thinking buying of yet another conversion that I have seen several times now at classic car shows.
It enables you to fit one white (5W?) bulb and one small (21W?) orange bulb so that you get orange indicator light with a white lens!

Correction to my earlier post - the Datasheet on fitting flashing indicators ONLY deals with this and not the simultaneous operation of flashing indicators AND trafficators.

I have a wiring diagram of this particular modification as fitted to my YA which I can email to anyone if interested.

Apologies for my earlier mistake.

Thanks for the responses.
If you see a brown and cream YA with the flashing indicators flashing, and the semaphores going up and down like a demented sea scout signaller's arms, please wave as it may be me.
