MG MG Y Type - Headlamps

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum, I have a 53 TD I restored and have just bought a 51YA to restore, so will in future become a regular reader, my first of probably many questions is - could someone tell me whether the 51 YA has 7" or 8" headlamps and should they be chrome or body coloured.

Hi Chris

Congratulations on acquiring a Y Type. To answer the questions raised a 1951 Y saloon should have 7 inch, all chrome headlights with the Lucas medallion in the top. All exactly as a TD of the same year.

Indeed Chris I echo David's welcome to the wonderful world of MG Y Types!

The actual headlamps you need are Lucas S700 50985s.

Hopefully too you will have found our website too at www.mgytypes.org. Please complete an online registration and remember to complete the Ys on Parade section and attach a photo to share your Y with us all. As the restoration progresses you can update your text and photo at any time!

Enjoy, they are great little beasties. Sadly I have let the last of mine go, ('Angus' 52 YB), but it is off to a well pedigree'd MG family. Have gone pre-war Austin 7. Great support here though.

It looks as if the seller has two headlamps listed in two seperate items.
