MG MG Y Type - Heater Question

Hey all, I have gathered the needed components to install a heater in the YT. Question; Is there another spot to tap for the heater besides the cover plate on the rear of the head? It appears that the motor would need to move forward to pull that plate. Thanks, Tom
Thomas McNamara

The plate on the back of the head will only supply water that has been cooled by the radiator, however you could use it to return water from the heater to the engine.

Water is fed from the bottom of the radiator through the water pump and flow along the square passage on the RHS of the engine block. It then passes up to the rear of the cylinder head.

To supply your heater with hotter water leaving the engine, it needs to come from the elbow that leaves the front of the head or the radiator top tank.

There is an excellent article on the XPAG cooling system in the Technical Data section of the IMGYTR website that explains the flow paths.

The water in the top of the radiator is 30 degrees hotter than at the bottom if the cooling system is working as it should.

Good Luck

Tony

complete plumbed system. If you are not a purist and can get hold of a Landrover "Clayton" Heater almost the same look and fitting as a "Smiths" but far better, copper tubes and an extra row of finnning far more heat

From experience I found re entering the heater flow at the rear of the cylinder head disturbed the flow within the block, this lead to overheating the engine on both a TF and YA thus modified. Bryan
