MG MG Y Type - Let there be Ys on eBay

I see this morning there is a copy of Let there be Ys on ebay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264122978028?.

I have no financial interest or connection with this sale.

A price tag of £220 and a claim that it's long out of print. If you want a copy, NTG will sell you one for forty quid.

I'm afraid the link does not work, and the NTG website says the book is unavailable - the supplement is not mentioned. However, it is possible to buy the CD for £35.91, and postage may be applicable.
R WILSON

Indeed the book has been LONG out of print so the seller is correct. As R Wilson states the NTG offering is on a CD that they stock and resell on behalf of YZ Publications Inc as a UK distributor. These are available fro YZ Publications at https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/stores/yzpublications.shtml on this site.

The first link in my original post still works Mr. Wilson though if you are interested in seeing the eBay post.

220.00 quid is an absolute joke. £50.00-100.00 may be. I too have a signed copy but that is just plain greed! Considering it is available on a CD the that surely is the way to go. I have no idea how many copies Dave Lawrence had printed, not too many I imagine which of course adds to its rarity.

A Happy New Year to all Y owners everywhere.

Cheers

Regarding the eBay copy, I wonder what value people will put on a signed copy, although including the supplement must help. However, the minimum postal charge of £13 is a bit of a sting.
R Taylor's link does work if you include .html with the underlined part.
R WILSON

Dave Lawrence completed his research in 1997 after eight years of hard work and commissioned a print run of 500 copies of the book. The supplement was published in 2002.
I think the digital version was published in 2011 (Paul will correct me if I'm wrong).
As for postage, Royal Mail express delivery is £11.00 - so there or there abouts.
The market place dictates the price!
Happy New Year all.

Hear hear Keith.

Its what someone is willing to pay Keith. The vendor may be a chancer just dangling a tasty morsel and waiting for a bite. Have to see what it goes for!
JERRY BIRKBECK

He isn't a "chancer" Jerry, he is a former Y owner who has set a personal value on what he has and as owners we should respect each other more than dishing people here because our value set may not be theirs. The last time I saw one of these come up it made its £200 price tag and frankly the book is a thing of beauty. Those of us who got in on the ground floor when they were new were very privileged.

Paul

All,

Market price dictates and it's a free country each to their own if they want to pay £200 for the book that is up to them. I personally wouldn't be selling my book, so you could argue with few and far copies about it is fair price.
I can't speak on behalf of Michael Long from IOW who is the vendor but as an ex Y Type owner who supported MGCC Y Type register events and indeed the IMGYTR I would feel quite offended by some of the views posted here and would expect an apology quite frankly.

Agree with you there Richard - thank you.

Paul said: "Indeed the book has been LONG out of print so the seller is correct."
You are right Paul, I saw the CD and CD cover. Being the technophobe that I am, I mistook the CD cover for a book. That;s what comes from playing 78 rpm records all the time.

R Taylor

Goodness me If folk are offended by a simple comment then I do wonder what we are coming to.

I had no idea who was selling the book and if they make a good price so be it. Though anyone selling an item for a high price is taking a chance that it might not be realised. Hence the term 'a chancer'.

Come on boys and girls grow up and stop worrying about such matters! There are far more significant issues to concern yourself over!
