MG MG Y Type - Mechanical Stop Lamp Switch

My stop lamp switch is starting to fail. I did a temporary fix on it this afternoon. Any suggestions where I might get a new/good used one? Or a replacement for the YT switch? Do any from another MG fit and work? Or maybe one from a different make?

Thanks,
Steve

Our cars have a fairly common style of brake light switch which was found on many cars of the period Steven. Originals can, I am sure, be found from many dealers, both MG and non-MG. Have you considered, however, fitting a more reliable hydraulic switch as many of us have? Of course you would have to be comfortable connecting this into the brake hydraulic circuit.
Good Luck.

I don't believe there is a supplier of the original lever switch type anywhere. NOS stocks are non-existant.

Changing the switch is an absolute nightmare - it's the first part that went on the chassis when the cars were built, and there is little space to get to the mounting screws.

Get a hydraulic conversion - you will not be sorry you did.

you can tak ethe original wires if you use a small relay from a motorcycle and switch the ground

i have described it in my blog i thing
i made a small hole in the wooden board so i can reach all really easy

all parts are easy to get

There're any number of suitable motorcycle brake switches (cable/wire pull-to-make) that do the same thing as the original switch, but are more reliable and weather-proof.
I left the original switch in place as a museum piece and mounted a new switch in parallel above it. There's plenty of mounting options on the chassis to position a bracket for the new switch and a neat wire link to the same point on the lower brake pedal does the job. This works just as well as installing a hydraulic switch but with a minimum of fuss and cost.

C&C are our recommended supplier and provide this hydraulic switch Stephen.
