MG MG Y Type - MGY Events in late May

My wife and I will be visiting UK (from Australia) between 12th and 24th May this year.

We're looking forward to meeting up with (honorary Australian) Dave Mullen in Liverpool during our stay. I would also be interested to know if there are any events happening during this period that may be of interest to a long time English MG/Morris enthusiast.

In the planning mix so far are visits to Oxford, Abingdon (if there's anything left to see there), the Morgan factory, Gaydon, and Lord Nuffield's home!

Time will be short but if there's a classic car/MG rally on somewhere, or an autojumble, I'd like to try to fit it in.

No art galleries please - by the time we get to the UK, I will have had my fill of European art classics, I'm sure, as my wife is a painter! It will be her turn to suffer!

Suggestions gratefully received.

Neil.

Depends where in the UK you are, Liverpool couldn't be much further away, but there is the annual MG Car Club Y Register Spring Run this year held at Winchester. Not been to one of these events since 2010 but in essence details may be found on the now abandoned and never updated site url:

I've no association to the event so can't comment on how successful or worthwhile it may be. You can read old reports of the event on the IMGYTR from 2011 and earlier.

Neil,
The MG Y register is indeed holding their spring run this year on the weekend of the 17th 18th of may based at the holiday inn winchester. There are usually 15 to 20 Y,s turn up for the weekend and most of use spend a night or 2 at the hotel, so if you want to spend some time with other Y enthusiasts book a room and join us you are more than welcome.

Hope to see you there Chris

Neil,
While your near Gaydon, for an extra half hour drive you could visit coventry Transport Museum http://www.transport-museum.com
I also understand that on 17/18th – there is Beaulieu Spring Autojumble.
Hope you have a good trip.

I have sent you an email with the Spring Run details attached. I do hope you will be able to fit us in.

The MGCC is based in Kimber House which is next door to the old factory site. Club staff are always pleased to welcome MG enthusiasts and show them round. The club House that contains all sorts of interesting memorabilia. Let them know you are coming and you might even be able to get a ride round Abingdon in "Little Gem" the Clubs YB. In fact one of our members has today serviced her and she is back on the road.
There is also the Abingdon Musem in the Town centre that contains a lot of MG History and there is an MG memmorial garden in the park

Many thanks to all who have posted a response to my message yesterday. The Coventry Museum looks great and we should be able to fit that in - a half hour's drive is nothing to an Aussie, given the vastness of Australia and the daily distances we sometimes have to drive to get to where we want to go!

Having said that, Winchester seems to be a bit off the route we have tentatively mapped out, and the time that we have available to do it in. It's tempting, but ...... The Beaulieu Spring Autojumble sounds great too, but my reading of the map suggests that it's also a bit off our planned route.

Abingdon is on our list and sounds like it is worth the effort to visit - I have a B as well as a Y, so there's a dual interest in the marque.

Looks like we should have arranged more time, or skipped a few of those European art galleries and Parisian nights!
