MG MG Y Type - New Website for Y Types

For those of you unable to attend the official launch on the Spring Run ...

The MG Car Club Y Type Register is pleased to announce their new website at http://www.mgytypes.org.

The site comprises a news page, a feature picture page, dedicated Y Type classified advertisements from the www.mgcars.org.uk site, on line registration, dedicated Y Type events calendar, an on line illustrated catalogue of regalia and a review of all the main Y Type books and publications available through the Register, a hints & tips page, a linked page to the Bulletin Board, a history of the Register's formation, a brief synopsis of the history of the Y, a page of useful links to other Y related sites, and a list of committee members and email addresses to contact them on.

Also, there is a page where we aim to host the largest (virtual) gathering of Ys worldwide - "Y"s on Parade.

The site's vitality will be provided by you, and it will be your input that will drive the content, with useful articles, picture of the month etc.

Please visit the site, record your views in the Guestbook, send me your pictures for "Y"s on Parade / Picture of the Month, tell your friends about it, then return to the BBS to post a response.

We hope you enjoy your visit and provide a reason for you, and others to come back - again and again.

Well done.

I second Ian. The site is magnificent and a credit to all those who who have done so much to get it up and running.
But there is another aspect. I have in front of me my file from 1970 to 1975 when I was looking for specific Y parts. I used to buy Motor Sport when it came in a
month or so late and then write letters to any advertiser that looked like they might have Y bits
and pieces. If they had anything it took six months from the original date of the letter until I got it.
That is one of the reasons it took five years to restore the car.

We are today very lucky; at least here in the remote corners of the old empire. In the 1970's virtually everybody, including my MG friends, thought I was somewhat dotty trying to to restore
a YT- use it for TD parts. There was no one, including me, that knew anything about Y's , except
the odd mechanic recognised that the drive train " came from a TD". Today we have these sites
that provide relatively immediate comunication and while I immensley enjoy driving down the road
looking at the world through a fifty year old windscreen this medium and those who can utilise it
will keep our cars going for at least another couple of generations. Terry

Paul, How do you decide which car to use? You have a great looking Y and a super Magnette! You have a tough life. Just enviously kidding. I have wanted a YA or YB for a very long time. (They are much more rare than Magnettes on this side of the ocean.) I just wanted to say how nice I thought the new site looked. Arch

You forgot my B and GT!

Also, Y's are much rarer this side too!

Your comments are appreciated - the website is a joint effort by several of the committee. As a committee we are committed to ensuring that the site is a good experience and we hope a useful resource and tool.

I am deeply indebted to Gunter Graskamp, Mike Plumstead and Rik Moncur for all their help too.

The MG Car Club Y Register website www.mgytypes.org has been well received, according to the comments received to date. The Ys on Parade page now has 24 entries representing cars from eight different countries. A number of owners have been reluctant to send photographs of their cars as they are not to concours standard. The purpose of the galley is to record all Y Type survivors, irrespective of condition. If the only photograph you have is a box of bits on the back of a trailer then we want this as well. You can always send an updated photograph as the restoration progresses. If you do not have a scanner then please e-mail either
the Webmaster webmaster@mgytypes.org or me publicrelations@mgytypes.org and we can provide snail mail addresses to send photographs. Also if you know of a Y Type Owner who doesn’t have access to the internet, please act as our agent and send photographs and text in on their behalf.

How often have you heard the question ‘How many Y Types have survived?’ This is an opportunity not only to provide the answer, but to have an up to date photographic record on the Website. All photographs are copied to the Registar to ensure that the Register records are current as well.

With thanks.

We are thrilled to find your site on the web--keep info coming.
We are about to begin the restoration of our 49 Y-T. We previously restored 79-81 our 52 TD and it is still running fine (knock wood). Would love to hear from some of you who have completed your Y or are in the process.
For safety reasons on today's highways, We have changed the running gear to an MGA for brakes and to have wire wheels. I have the 16" wheels, but need tyres.
Also have changed the MGA rearend pumpkin to a Magnette pumpkin which has the same gear ratio as the YT. However, I have held on to all of the original parts--just in case. Jim Moss--Moss Motors--did this same conversion on his YT, I understand.
I plan to keep all other parts of car original. Looking for suppliers/parts with with whom you have had luck/success. Thanks in advance.

The MG Y type Website www.mgytypes.org now has 43 cars, 7 short of that MaGic 50, from 12 different countries posted on the Ys on Parade section of the website. If your car is not featured and you would like it to be added please see my earlier posting or visit the site for instructions. With thanks.
