MG MG Y Type - Peter Edney MG Parts and Services

Please be cautious when dealing with Peter Edney MG Parts and Services, this company currently lists on Ebay and accepts payment without having stock and then strings out the 45 day period for lodging disputes. We paid for a rear axle seal kit on the 10th of May 09 and dispite 4 emails we have not recieved the goods or the courtesy of a response.

Rear seal kits are available ex-stock from NTG I beleive.

The Octagon Car Club supply rear seals for both YA/YT (SBS024) and the YB (SBS025). I would suggest that you contact them (see links page) and see if they have some in stock. If so then get Peter Edney to re-credit you and get them from the Octagon. Without doubt even the non-member Octagon price will be cheaper than the other suppliers.

There are better places to get your parts, I had problems with them and in the end had to get the legal boys on them before they paid up. Always remember that the parts are more likely to be better priced and as near to original as can be from the Octagon Car Club.

Well we finally received the seal kit after months of emails, in fairness the goods were as advertised for a fair price, however the concept of customer service in a timely fashion seems beyond this vender. Thanks for your supportive comments.

Ever wondered why Edney is not on the list of Links at www.mgytypes.org despite them being "in business" for so long?

Still, glad you got the seals ... now I just hope that they do the job they are supposed to.

Gentlemen,
my first posting on this forum and I find myself defending Peter Edney Classics. How odd? I have just had a full engine rebuild by them and although it was not cheap, the work was excellent and the back-up 'Warranty' supplied with the car was worth the extra just for peace of mind. I have had no problem with spares from them either, having just ordered some new wheel cylinders through them.

On the other hand, NTG have proved both expensive and unreliable. The brake wheel cylinders for a YB are the same as those for a TD and therefore more 'available'. NTG quoted me £130 per Y wheel cylinder! When asked half an hour later for a TD one, it's £42 (and they have the same part number). Asking for Y-type parts seems to be a licence to print money.

Anyway, sorry the other chaps have had problems but so far (crossing fingers), I've had no bother.

I would echo Alex's comments regarding the quality of an engine rebuild by Peter Edney, his father George unleaded the head and Peter did the rest. I was pleased with the outcome and have travelled around 4000 miles since then.He also fitted the oil filter conversion and the rear seal fitting- all of which are very effective. I had my engine rebuilt in early 2007 and it was expensive. His customer care is pretty poor and when I phoned up to ask what was happenning even his staff commented that dealing with customers was not his forte!

NTG have always been expensive but the example cited is appalling. It just shows that folk need to know what parts are interchangeable with T Types. Or of course use Octagon Car Club who are very competitive.

Sincerely
