MG MG Y Type - Radiator Drain pipe

On the TD board there has been discussion on the shape and location and shape of the radiator drain pipe.

Following examination of some original TD photos it appears that the drain pipe actually ended by going horizontally under the radiator support and not vertically down below the cross member (as depicted by reproductions).

LTBYs makes no mention of the shape of the pipe.

So we can determine whether MG had a different item for Ys and TDs on the production line, can owners of original Ys please confirm whether their Ys drain pipe ends in a forward horizontal or a vertical position.

I cannot speak for the TD but see no reason why it would be any different to the Y/YT/YB.

The Y/YT/YB pipe is like a ? in shape. Please refer to http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/parts.shtml.

Paul, the shape as depicted on the IMGYTR/parts webpage and sold by parts companies is what I and others thought was correct for the TD (and purchased for my YT), but the attached photo is what has been found on an original TD.

This is why I am asking for owners with original Ys to look at their Y's drain pipe and let us know the shape of the pipe.

I have worked on a lot of Y-Types over the years - dozens at least as well as viewing dozens more at shows.

I have never seen a pipe like the one "found on an original TD". It seems impractical to point the pipe forward where it can be clogged with road grit & debris.

The Y-Type "?-shaped" pipe passes through the left hand rack mounting, which protects it from stone impact. I'm not sure if the train pipe on a TD radiator aligns with the rack mounting - maybe that is the point of difference that explains the TD shape ?.

YB0362 drain pipe which i know has been the same since 61 when the car was only nine years old, comes off the tap in a loop and then drops vertically between the rack and front of cross member.

Yeah - that is not original TD Stuart.
