MG MG Y Type - Rear Axle Control Link (Panhard Rod)

I've been side-tracked from my current handbrake difficulties:

Can anybody tell me of a source for the big bolts that screw into the ends of the rear axle control link (Panhard) bar (for a YA/YT not YB)?

I'm not sure if they are different lengths but if they are then I need the one for the chassis end (rather than the axle end).

I can't find them in the NTG lists and as (I believe) they are exclusive to YA/YT then Moss will be of no help.

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Saul.

Hi Saul,

I fitted new rubber bushes, bolts & nuts to my panhard rod about 6 months ago, and obtained the nuts & bolts by mail order from www.namrick.co.uk.

The bolts are 1/2 inch BSF, one 5 inches long and the other 3 1/2 inches long. The only snag is that, as supplied, the threads on both are only about 1 inch long, the rest of the shanks being plain.

I extended the threads as necessary with an appropriate die (obtainable mail order from www.TracyTools.com ). Go easy with the die as the Namrick bolts are high tensile and thus quite tough.

Regards,

Bill

Try Roger Furneaux at Mad Metrics. There is a price list (albeit an old one - July 2002) on the Links Page on our website at www.mgytypes.org. He may well be able to supply the bolts fully threaded even if they arent on his list.

Bill - where did you get the bushes please?

Hi Paul,

The bushes came from NTG, their part no. R861, £4.95 each plus VAT.

AGGGHHHH!!
I just paid some idiot at my local garage 45 pounds for the priviledge of them bending my panhard rod and shearing the bolt off inside the rod.
I cannot believe it. I should have gone with my first hunch and just cut the head of the bolt off.
Now I've got to pay for somebody else to drill and tap the rod and then I've still got to find and buy a new bolt and three nuts.

Still, at least it's off the car now.

Livid.

I would never have paid them unless they had pointed out that that would have been a possibility when I took the car in. If I were you a) I wouldn't go back, and b) I'd report them to the Office of Fair Trading and Consumer Affairs/Advice. You might not get your £45 back, but you will cause them some grief thereby!
