MG MG Y Type - Rear bearings

I have now prepared the tourer body and moving to the chassis etc
Help please
I have replaced all the bearings on each corner with sealed bearings and about to tighten down but seek advice first. Sure ,the locating washer has two lugs , one to locate in the inner groove and one to locate on the outer presumably between the bearing and casing shaft.
With a sealed bearing there is no space for the outer lug but the inner still fits. Am I ok to zip off the outer lug if the inner one exists alone.
Admittedly the complete washer in pic has no inner lug.
Is two new lugged washers the order?
Please correct me if my naming of the parts is inappropriate.
I have viewed the axle splines and they seem ok , will send another pic of these for the knowledgable to consider please.

Is that relevant that small notch that appears about half way down the spline.
The finished body with new SS hinges - they are now no more.

The locking washer goes between the bearing and the nut, so the order is hub/bearing on then the lock washer with the inner tag in the groove then the nut, tighten the nut good and tight(it needs to be really tight) then whichever outer tag that lines up with a groove in the nut gets bent over into the groove to lock the nut in position. If you need to move the nut a bit to line up a slot go tighter-DO NOT- loosen it to line up a slot

With the nick in the axle spline, that's fairly normal wear and tear---If it were a race car you'd pull the side gears out of the diff and round off the end of the inner spline to stop it digging into the shaft and creating a possible weak spot, but being what it is I'd just get a fine file and dress the burrs off the axle shaft shown in your pic. and leave well alone.
One point is to always make sure the shafts go back in the side they came out of--if you swap them over they get stressed back the opposite way to what they've been used to and can snap--that axle in the pic is from the LH side-

Thanks Willy
Good to have that affirmation of the correct process.
Do you know if those lock washers are obtainable , because I think I need two new ones. Yes I will tighten up fully and completely. I was obviously thinking of those lock washers upside down, now I know , thank you.
The splines , do you know that one I showed is the LHS because the wear mark is on the leading edge.?
Yes I will file down with a fine file to smooth out , much appreciated for your prompt response .
One thing , you did ask on an earlier topic re a fitting of an MGB engine with the uni jointed shaft, I will send a photo on this topic when next out at Kimber s Kastle Klub.
This mod was performed by a fellow of the name Lindsey Head which you may have some recollection of. The Head brothers had BMC Leyland franchise years back and were concerned with racing. He did place a 6 cyl Wolseley engine with auto box in a car that was owned by a Christopher Constantine who is still interested in tracking down his passion car.

Clive, Yep twigged onto left side because of the wear mark-
I'm all sorted with the steering column now thanks-ended up more or less as in your pic. was worried about the shaft being so close to the dist. so I've changed the RH engine mount to a 6cyl. BMW one which is quite large/stiff -just in case, bit of an overkill but haven't had an issue with it---so far.
Always interested to see how others have done things though if you see something.
Not sure about the lockwasher availability---yours do look a bit sad---I "think" they're the same as a TC so should be available--I'll get back to you on them.

As suspected, they're the same as TB TC YA and TY
Had a poke about and the cheapest I could find were these at Ballingalls----If you took your old ones to a bearing shop they could probably match something up a bit cheaper- ?

Thanks Willy
Have already ordered from NTG, £5.95 ,to go with new thermostat for the SA.
I see there is thought now to include the Y Type with the pre war collections in MG CC Prewar, why not there are great similarities. Both have Jackalls , like big brother and little sister.
CR Dickinson

All good--probably a good move combining the cars, not quite prewar but close enough.
