MG MG Y Type - Replacing YA Brake Pipes

If I have new brake pipes swaged by a local factor, would the currently available pipe 'nuts' now have metric threads? I ask, because thinking this would probably be the case(and he didn't know either), I had him use my original 'nuts' & tees on the new pipes and guess what - some leak! Well, it was a good try anyway!

Could anyone suggest the best way to do this brake pipe replacement? There seems to be so many options - get a complete kit of parts with pipes cut and bent to fit perhaps or just get new tees etc.,then go back to the local factor to swage on the new nuts, and then there are, I believe, 2 or 3 different swage angles in use.
I would be grateful for any advice.

New set, too costly to get wrong with leaks if it were my decision.
Also recommend C + C for brake bits, link on imgyr. Recently went to Holland to pick up with other bits and got excellent service

My suggestion to you Tony is buy the relevant pipe from NTG if you can. It will probably be the right length, if you talk to Mike Green or Paul Banyard and tell them which pipe you need and ask them to supply flared ends to suit and nuts etc. because the threads on the brake pipes (and the Jackall) and the flares are BSP that is British Standard Pipe I think you will find - that is not AF or UNF or metric.

If someone know more info please post, but I think NTG is your best bet for Y/YT. Moss will be able to help for YB as it is pretty much the same as TD except for the Master Cylinder T to rear pipe which may be different.

If the pipes are of copper I wonder if in the process of swageing the ends they are now work hardened. Unless any one has another suggestion or objections, I suggest that annealing the ends by heating to cherry red and then quenching in water will soften the copper so that it forms a better joint. Ensure that no trace of water remains in the pipes first. Bryan

Many thanks Richard, Paul, Bryan
In the end I went to NTG as the easiest option.
They only supply complete sets of pipes, however, but they did me a very good deal.
I have dealt with NTG before and cannot speak too highly of them - any problems and they do everything they can to put them right.

Thanks Tony - I concur and that is why they are high on my "go to" list of people. They are very helpful and therefore a Recommended Vendor (endorsed by many Y owners) on our Links Page.
