MG MG Y Type - screw heads & sunroof seals

Getting to the end of the restoration but have a couple of questions. The interior was stripped when I purchased the car.

1. What type of screw head was used on the interior a slot or philips?
2. Does the rear rubber seal get glued to the vertical metal strip over the drain and where does the front rubber seal get attached to.

Philips or +head really were not around when our cars were built Frank so they would have been slots.

Not sure which vertical metal strip you are referring to so unless someone else is can you post a picture on here for us or email me one?

The front rubber seal is glued to the front leading edge of the sliding roof panel.

The + type screw head was actualy used in 1937 in the US by GM but was not sure if it was used in England after WWII on the Y types.
The vertical part is the part that the guide rod for the sunroof is attached to.

Perhaps I should have used the word COMMON usage in the UK!

:-)

As to the verticle rod - still not sure which piece you are referring to - can you post a pictrue?

Mine has +heads in all the woodwork - maybe the work of PO's part restoration around 1980?

Made a visit today to the restorer who is working on the interior and he found the answers to my questions.
He has been useing Dave Lawrences book as a guide and over the weekend went through the section on the interior and yes the + screws are the correct ones for the interior finishing. Also he had the booklet on fitting the headliner and in it is the location of the seal .

I might be a purist, but I cannot agree with Frank's suggestion that cross headed screws are correct for the interior trim. My copy of Let there be Ys does not specify the screw heads used - only that they were chrome plated. My own recollection of my first YB, in 1970, which was completely original, all of the screws in the car had slotted heads. These were almost universally used in the UK during the production period of the Y Types. The cross headed variety were regarded as 'foreign rubbish' at the time and avoided by most. As far as I am aware all original screws on Y Types had slotted heads and cross headed ones should never be seen

Checked the book and if you look on Page 184 right hand column 1st paraghraph line 2 & 3 it states chrome plated self tapping "Phillips" screw used.

Noted with apologies. It is not with the comments on the wood trim. While I would not want to disagree with David Lawrence, my recollections from my original YB in 1970 are that all of the screws were slotted. I still would not use cross headed screws on a British car of that era.
