MG MG Y Type - SEEKING HELP ON SOME DASHPANEL PLAQUES

On the dashpanel of my YT there are three plaques awarded to the owner of the car for participating in an event. I have attached a photo which provides the detail.

What I would like to know if any of these events still occur and if there is a photo source/pictures of former winners etc.

They are:

1954 Spring Trial and Tour WNY - First Place
1957 Red Leaf Rally
2002 Beaulieu Cup Team

Any help would be warmly welcomed,

Great to meet some many friends on the MG Octagon CC stand at Stoneleigh yesterday. It was a really good event and thoroughly enjoyable. Numbers were down due to snow and foul weather in the early morning (from around 4.00 am - 9.00 am).
There was a YB for sale for £8950 (or thereabouts) the trim colour was strange. Not sure if it sold but there was a lot of interestin the car.

Sincerely

Jerry

Jerry -
Your car was in the US as late as 2002. The plaque for the 2002 Beaulieu Cup shows the logo of the New England MG T Register (which also includes the MG Y cars). The Beaulieu cup was a competition between local chapters of the New England MG T Register to see who could travel the most miles to the MG event which was held in Nova Scotia, Canada in July of 2002. The mileage was calculated by the number of cars times the mileage from their home area to Nova Scotia. Many people traveled 1000 to 2000 miles to the event. If you could give me the chassis number and the engine number of the MG Y, I may be able to find the route that was traveled to Nova Scotia and maybe the owner. The other plaques also appear to be North American events.

The Red Leaf Rally from 1957 is, I beleive, a plaque from the American Sportscar Club which was a racing club back in the 1950s. It is quite likely that this event may have taken place in Canada which of course has a red maple leaf as its national symbol.

The other is a Western New York (WNY)event. The best person to ask on this would be Dick Knudson with whom I am in contact. Would you like me to ask him for you?

Thanks J and Paul

I have sent Dick Knudson an email to see what he can tell us. He has been on the North East MG scene for quite a while.

Using the chassis number and engine numbers that you provided, I found two previous owners of your 1950 MG YT.
The car is listed as being Red. In the late 1990's the YT was in western New York, near Niagara Falls so Paul's thought that it was a Canadian event would be very possible. In the early 2000's the YT was in the Boston Massachusetts area and would have been part of the "MG T Party" team for the Beaulieu Cup.

I was in Rochester/Buffalo area of NY only 2 weeks ago - what a beautiful part of this great country that is. The picture is of the Horseshoe Falls at Niagara in the distance. Near left is the US cascade falls and on the right is Toronto Canada. The river below the falls is totally frozen over despite the 150,000 US gallons (124,901 imperial gallons and 567,812 litres) of water that go over them EVERY SECOND! That is 4,733,640,000,000 US gallons a year!

Totally off topic, but a great excuse for a superb photo!

Just thought I would correct the geography about the photo. One the right is Niagara Falls ON Canada a major tourist trap. Toronto is approx. 40 miles up river and accross Lake Ontario or by road 80 miles.

Hi Frank
Undoubtedly you are right - I didnt cross the bridge so I was guessing! Next time I am up that way maybe we can get together.

Are you coming over for GT35 in the summer at Wisconsin?

Hope to get your visor thing off to you soon.

Hi Paul
I got corrected tonight at dinner. It is down river not up.
No not going any where these days with business and cash flow being the way it is. Hopefully it will improve over the next while , but anybody that ownes a small business will know what I am talking about.
Thanks for the visor part, and look forward to receiving it. This is the best part about restoring a Y, all the people you have having an interst in helping out.

The ASC Red Leaf badge says Warren PA on it; the club address or the Rally location? 40 mi N of me, or about 60 S of Buffalo. Fall touring stuff is v good around here!
