MG MG Y Type - side curtin trim strip
Hey all, I am looking for a trim strip, about 11 1/2 inches long, to complete the installation of the side curtains. It seems I was short shipped by a popular supplier and now they want to sell me an entire set to make up for the one they shorted me. Anyone have one? Thanks, Tom |

Please folks, if you have issues with suppliers that are recommended vendors on the IMGYTR website that you are unable to resolve directly with the suppliers, PLEASE contact myself first before posting on the BBS. These matters can often times be easily resolved. Tom - can you please drop me a line about this matter so I can intercede on your behalf? Thank you Paul |

Hey Paul, please send your e-mail address to me again. The one I have "bounced" back. Thanks, Tom |

Hi all, I am having difficulty finding these strips. Is there still a source of these strips? Or is there a work-around? regards Kevin M |

Kevin, Cant think of an alternative mate. What you need is someone with them removed who can draw round them to provide patterns. They aren't difficult to make but the shaping is quite subtle in places and the length of each one is crucial. Good luck John B |

Thanks John B, Seems I will still need to find suitable strips to mount on the frame. Maybe the screw heads will have to show. I was wondering if anyone has found that the trim set for some vehicle or other could be used,. many (usually older) cars had strips of stainless trim. Newer ones are often chromed plastic, sometimes backed by rubber or similar, I think, not so useful for this. We shall find something I guess. regards Kevin m |

Kevin , The trim strips are tacked into the compressed paper strip that the roof lining is tacked onto . It covers the edge of the head lining and the line of tacks runs along the edge of the strips . This row of tacks is then hidden by the hiddem binding . only refitted mine a few months back , if i had known i could have made some patterns . Wonderful thing hindsight!! Good luck ,John |

So in answer to the strip dimensions are: 9/20" (11.5mm) wide 11/50" (5.7) high Channel for screw threads 1/6" (4.6mm) wide The screws pass completely through the side screen and secure onto a metal strip frame 1/2" wide that goes all the way round the side screen set about 1/2" or so inside the outer edge. The screws are secured using square nuts. The holes in the side screens are not threaded. This is based on a set of side screens in my possession that I believe to be original Paul |

Hey guys , I think ive got it wrong . You are talking about a YT yes? . Sorry my comments referred to a Y/YB I'll go back to my dark place . Cheers John B |

Can anyone advise whether the chrome on brass side curtain trim strips orig to YT's are similar to those used on TC/D/F models? Same width, cuvature? Rocky |
Rodney C "Rocky" von Dullen |
Dont know about the similarity Rocky ... but if you can get a sample and send it to me I can compare it. John, the title of the thread is "side curtin [curtain] trim strip" so yes we are talking YT here. Reference the nailing strips in Y and YB, these were rolled compressed paper. As a replacement I used shaped strips of particle board cut to fit curvatures etc. If you can find hemp rope of the appropriate thickness to fit in the gap that could work too. |
