MG MG Y Type - side panels

Hello All
Am refitting the side panels to the interior of my YA, ie each end of the back seat and both footwells . So a quick question - Should the fixing screws also have a cup washer? Particularly around the curve of the door frame .
Thanks in advance

done it without any screen that could be seen from inside
works perfect
used the original holes

you will find every step you have to do when you restore the car

Thank you for those photos Franz . It wasn't the door panels I was asking about.
It is the side panels by the back seat and the front footwell panels . When i got my cat there were cup washers at the edges of these panels with self tapping screws . Just wondered if this was as per original ?

John - look at "Fasteners for interior trim panels" in the Y archives. Then decide which way you want to go! The late Terry Ciantar (Queensland, Aus) had some very helpful advice; and in fact my YA which I bought in 1984 in Qld also didn't have any evidence of cupwashers in those particular panels. I still have the original upholstery in a cupboard for reference. I don't like cup washers cutting into trim material, so have used the inverted washers in several locations to secure trim as well as on woodwork. Not original, but makes me feel better. John.

Thanks John I will look at that . I also managed to load LTBYs on to my new laptop, (couldn't do it on my old one) and is says clearly in there- no cup washers!
My panels are ok except for the enlarged holes where the screws go and I don't particularly like cup washers . Maybe I can araldite a thin flat washer onto the back to strengthen them . Will check out the Y archives first . Thanks again

John
Thanks for the search in the archives. As you say , make your choice . I do wonder if early YAs didnt have cup washers and later YAs and YBs did . Or was it just what the guy fitting them fancied ?
Anyway thanks again

Cup washers were used on the original trim in my car, a late YA. And the re-upholstering was the work of a trimmer who had done his apprenticeship at Wolseley, where they made a lot of the seats and trim for Nuffield cars, and he always used cup washers on the fixed trim panels. (The door trims use clips, of course, so there is no visible means of support!)

Thanks Tim , I went with cup washers in the end , the indentations around the holes showed a clear outline of previous fitting from a long time back and the holes had become enlarged anyway . All looks fine now . Cheers John B
