MG MG Y Type - Spanners and stuff

Hi,
I am about to strip a complete XPJM engine with the intention of having it rebored and rebuilding it as a spare for my YA. I am assuming it has all the same threads and bolts as an XPAG. The trouble is it's a long (very, very long) time since I took an engine to bits and I don't have many serious sets of spanners. I know there's a weird and wonderful mix of sizes in there so can some kind Y person out there tell me what I will need as a minimum.
Thanks in advance,
Peter

My immediate guess would be they too are Whitworth heads with metric bolt threads.

Minimum equipment therefore would be a set of Whitworth spanners/wrenches and Whitworth sockets set and a metric thread gauge. They are so cheap I would also get yourself an imperial or inch thread guage too Peter.

Paul,
Thanks for the quick reply. Just after I posted the question I recalled seeing something on this website about fasteners. Sure enough, all the information I needed was there in the 'Technical Centre'. I've ordered them already (and of course they are called wrenches across the pond aren't they?).

I am bilingual Peter so I tend to translate now as I go!

Glad you found what you were looking for. We have most things covered ... but not all!

Peter,
I have an XPJM LX block #87569, which I have stripped and used the same spanners/wrenches as I use on my TD. I don't think you will encounter any differences in the nut, bolt or thread sizes. I used a lot of them in another XPAG block.

Hi Peter,
You should find that the majority of the fasteners have BFS hex heads(compatible with Whitworth sizes, but 1/16 different). You say you have already ordered spanner, but out of interest to the readers it may be helpful to know where you have found siutable spanners(wrencehes) presumably new.
Good luck. Keith
