MG MG Y Type - speedo recalibration

My dodgy speedo has now packed up completely. Can anyone recommend someone in the SE of England who could repair and recalibrate it? Thanks, Marc.

Vintage Restorations in Tunbridge Wells are reknowned for their quality work. There is a link on the Links page of the Y register Website.

But do make sure you ask them to fix your speedo and return your speedo to you and not an exchange unit!

I would also suggest that you agree a date by which the work will be done. Otherwise you may have to wait a (very) long time.

Funnily enough its just started working again of its own accord. I love old cars..

Interestingly the speedo in my car seems to have the same lazy habit.
Good luck , Marc, in getting all your car's wee problems sorted .

What happens is there is (or should be) a small felt washer at the gearbox end of the speedometer cable to prevent oil spiraling up into the head of the speedometer.

Once the faces of the speedometer stuff get oil on them, they slip and become erratic.

So, after you get your head (speedometer head that is) serviced, replace the washer ... and the speedometer cable as there will be residual oil still in the cable.

New cables can be obtained from Speedograph Richfield - see Links page too.
