MG MG Y Type - Sun visor hinge

Hi all, YB0444 is undergoing a full restoration which is only progressing as fast as my wife (lol) will allow, as finances are tight now that I've retired.

I was making new sun visors the other day in readiness for them to be recovered, and I accidentally dropped one of the hinges and broke the retaining ring on the hinge base, which has rendered this hinge useless. Although my hinges are not perfect, they would have been ok.

I wonder if anyone has got a spare hinge base that is surplus to requirements. I'm based in Kent in the UK, should anybody be able to help.

Can you post a picture of what you need and I'll have a look? If not, email the picture to me instead.

Hi Paul Thank you.

Mick.

Hi Mick

VERY hard to come by so although it is £60 I think this is your best bet right now.

Mick I was going to say NTG sell a pretty good repro, but I see they're unavailable just now so no price is listed. John.

If the hinge is brass, surely it can be taken apart, the broken parts stripped of chrome, braised together, then re-chromed. There is a chroming company near Wembley Stadium that could do it, but there is probably one nearer to you.

Mick,

As you well know, the part is cast zinc, aka pot metal, so brazing will not work.

I have a spare in pretty good condition (photo to follow) here in Virginia if you can not locate one in the UK.

Hi Rocky,
What a gentleman! That would be great. Happy to pay for the hinge and postage to the UK.

Paul, would you please send Rocky my private email address so we can make contact.

Cheers,
Mick.

Mick,

I have not forgotten you, but Paul has yet to send me your contact info. Perhaps you should follow his post of 14 Aug 2023:
Also today, in the interests of security and preventing spam to our Board and International Representatives, changes have been made to our Contact Us page. Now rather than generating a link to your email client you will need to complete a form, validate it with a Capcha validate and submit it to us. This is now a common practice on many websites and we hope that it will not deter you from making contact with us. You cannot attach any files but when we reply you will then be able to send over any necessary files. Appologies for any inconvenience but spammers have become more sophisticated recently and have attempted to break our former security wall so we have strengthened the defences!

Willy,

Paul came through and responded to Mick's request. I have contacted him to donate my spare sun visor hinge.

Thanks, Paul!!!!

Trust you are awaiting Spring down under.

Constance, YB 0952, has been included in an invitational only local car show on 10 Sept commemorating M.G.'s centinerary. Hope she starts, and I am able to drive her the four miles to the show grounds with my "new" knee!

She will be the only saloon, and model never sold new in the USA, on display.

Octagonally,
Rocky

Cheers Rocky - Hope you have a good day at the show
4 miles --- you've got that
How's the knee going -- plenty of use early on is the secret - use it - use it and use it, before long it'll be just a normal knee
You'll have to behave yourself now though--the mob you have near you there are probably tracking your metal bits---lol
Spring's started early here, daffodils are out, we've had a fairly dry/mild winter---summer will be interesting if we follow on from what you guys have had---might be a bit hot
We've got our 100'th celebration show coming up in November--hoping to get 100 MG's there on the day, bit of an ask for our little island but we'll see
Cheers
Look after yourself------
