MG MG Y Type - Tony Slatterys's TA Airline

Wow Tony

Just picked up a pic of your latest addition.

A TA Airline now that really is a rarity!
I saw one at the MG International Show in the UK a couple of years ago.

It looks very smart next to your YT. I'm sure that you will really enjoy it. Have fun!

I have always fancied the TA or preferably TB Tickford, whilst they are both rare Airlines are in a completely different league.

A very nice combo!

Sincerely

Jerry

Isn't this the ONLY surviving TA airline?

Hello Gents,
Yes "Grace" is a very unique MG. There is another TA Airline that has been identified in the past few weeks, but it lost it's Airline Coupe body many years ago. We believe that she is the only surviving TA Airline Coupe.

There were around 50 Airlines made - 28 PB's, 14 PA's, 6 NA's, 1 NB and a couple of TA's - difficult to know exactly after all these years.

She is a pleasure to drive - quite fast & comfortable, but you need to be flexible to get in and out.

We have equal shares in ownership with Col Schiller - we both loved Airline Coupes, so we decided this was the only way we could both get one.

Y-Types are still my favourite MG, but my wife adores "Grace", so I need to share my garage time now to keep the household a happy place.

I am keen to find any photos or history of "Grace" prior to 1961(she was two-tone green then), so please contact me if you can help.

cheers

Tony

Jerry,
Could you please email me a copy of the photo you have.

Here is my fav photo from Tasmania !

The family in the shot drove the Saloon for 1,000km around the state - their first experience with Classic Cars - they are now shopping for a Y-Type of their own ! - simply loved every minute !.

Cheers from Down Under

Hi Tony

The pic I have is certainly not an airline but I have certainly seen one in recent years more than likely at
MG Live Silverstone. I'll certainly review my list of pics.

The reason I suddenly thought of the Airline was because the car that I refered to was for sale at MG International at Stoneleigh for £199k!

I like the idea of the co-ownership that you mentioned. It would seem to be a very handy and realistic arrangement for owning a very rare model which ensures that it will be regularly used

If you could forward me your e-mail address then I'll attach the pics. My e-address is: jerrybirkbeck@btinternet.com

All the best

Hi Jerry,
Please send me any Airline photos you might have - australia@mgytypes.org as per the contact page on IMGYTR Website as I'm the Australian Representative.

That PB Airline is still For Ssle I understand - time to "phone a friend" perhaps. It's a beautiful car !.

cheers - Tony

Hi Tony

The Airline that I saw was indeed a 1936 PB and is still for sale at £119,950 on the Sussex Sports Cars website.

I am pretty sure that when it was at Stoneleigh a couple of years ago the asking price was £199k!

It's a duo tone Ulster and Dublin Green and there is a good bit of history on the site about the car. Together with loads of pics.

I am sure its probably known by your guys.

Hope this is of some help - though you probably are well aware of it!

All the best

Hi Tony,
I have pictures of your Airline that I took at a show near Boston, Massachusetts, USA in the 1970's.
All the best,

Hi Tony,
I found one photo of your TA which shows Mark Gibbons looking under the bonnet. Alec Hounslow is in the background, so I must have taken it at a G.O.F.
Please send your address to: srb913@comcast.net and I will send you a copy.
Read the excellent article about your car in Totally T Types.

Hi Scott,
I tried your email but it bounced back, so send me an email direct so I can reply with my address. Many thanks & cheers. Tony

Thanks Paul too - it's a wonderful car to be a part of, even if only for a short time. "Grace" will outlive us all.

Hi Tony

I get a hard copy of JJ's excellent mag and the photos of your TA are splendid and a great article by John.

How do you choose who drives it in your co-ownership?

All the best

Hi Jerry,
By chance I have had the Airline since it arrived in the country for a couple of events, and then replacing the clutch plate and a few other jobs. Once these are finished in the next few weeks, the car will go to Col for a long time, only fair.

I need the workshop space, and want to get moving on my other MG's which have been neglected since Grace arrived. I can't stop working on the Airline - a fabulous car with so much charm and potential !.

Col and I live about 120km apart, so it's not like we can each drive it every week.

Octagonally - Tony
