MG MG Y Type - Window screen seal

Merry Christmas to fellow Y enthusiasts
With christmas slowly departing I will soon be moving back into he garage to continue rebuilding Yasmin (my wife already named our YA!!!)I am about to refit the front window but I am wondering whether there ever was a seal attached to the window frame which the window sits against when shut. If not, has anyone fitted one to improve sealing against water ingress. Does anyone have any photos showing a seal fitted.

Cheers Chris

I fitted a screen recently and wrote it up for our website http://www.mgccyregister.com/wspvtg0312
this includes pictures. The seal is from woolies code R156 and the secret of getting a good water tite seal is very careful adjustment of the adjustable hinges to give even pressure when closed.

Reactivating please: is Woolies R156 reckoned to be the best performing windscreen seal for the Y ? That's what I'm using (new), and it's "ok", a bit loose in its seating, and a bit of daylight on the top corners if I gently peel the rubber back. So I don't!
I half remember someone offering a better seal - might have been John Jebb in the UK? - I'm certainly keen if something other than the Woolies seal is known to work better.
Thanks all.
John.

I fitted the screen surround seal a year or so ago . Got it from Pete at Octagon , slipped in a treat using good old lard as recommended by Paul .Took only an hour to do and is a great fit. Before you make good the join bottom centre leave it overnight to settle in case you stretched it when fitting.
The only other "seal" i found was at the bottom of the opening , between the wooden dash top and the metal of the body. There is a leather cloth beading strip pinched in there . Hardly a seal though.

Thank you John - your mention of stretching the seal while installing it is I think the key. As you come around the corner, the seal tends to stretch, and my trimmer mate showed me the proof by applying a (low) heat gun near the top corner, whereupon the gap at the bottom opened up by an inch! So I had definitely stretched the seal. Having said that, when new the seal was a loose and floppy fit - it needed absolutely no lubrication when I installed it. I kept a good section of my original seal, and am looking for a product which more closely matches the measurements. Hope springs eternal ...

My seal was from Pete at Octagon no idea where he sourced it. It was a firm fit in the groove of the screen and within the body frame .Peter V makes a good point about adjusting the hinges, they are slotted so you can get it snug at the top of the screen .
Good luck

John Hall - I concur with John Bowman in that the seal should not be floopy but rather on the firmer/stiffer side. It should slide in with a little resistance when lubricated. Do you know where your trimmer sourced the seal from?

Sorry Paul, been away from home and missed your question back in March - the existing seal (not a good fit in the chrome windscreen channel, too loose) is from Woolies, whose products I usually find excellent; I like the look of RM 43 in the complete automobilist catalogue, it seems to be slighly larger all round and so might offer a snugger fit.
