MG MG Y Type - words were spoken!
| I just wanted to take a moment to tell whomever in the past 76 years worked on what is now my MGYT, and replaced a front hub so now both of them are left hand thread and not one of each. Words were said after struggling to get the large nut off the outside of one, and finally saying "maybe try it the other way" and it came loose...... By the way, if you have to do this, a ford hub socket fits perfectly, purchased at Princess Auto in Canada. Joe... |

| Surely, if the complete hub had been replaced by one from the other side, wouldn't the taper for the steering arm be the wrong way? |
| R WILSON |
| R Wilson....Its just the hubs with the bearings inside, they appear identical. |

| Welcome to UK cars in the USA - no bodge is off the tables! You should see some of the horrors that have come through my shop to fix. Paul |

| Well, I have attached the parts list diagram of the Y/YT front suspension, and I did think that one of the nuts; 57RH or 61LH, was the nut in question. The complementary stub axle is one piece with its steering knuckle, 84RH or 85LH. Anyway, regarding the hubs, the diagram shows that there are two; 72RH & 73LH, for RH and LH assemblies. However, as the wheel studs, part number 74, are the same for both, why should the hubs be different? Slightly puzzled!!

| R Wilson, on your diagram the nut in question on mine is 31RH, 65LH, both LH on mine.
Im wondering about 64 as well...not sure what that part is This is an adventure. As an added note, one of my bearings (58) was a bit rough, so I spent an hour with the bearing guy at my local parts supplier and I "think" I have identified modern tapered bearings and an oil seal (66) that will fit the hubs...I'll let you all know further when we assemble them. Cheers all. Thank you for your comments Joe |
