Hi I'm looking for front and rear bumpers for a y type
as anyone as any idea where I might find them and was the same bumper fitted to any other car at that time
much appreciate help. My baby is getting very close

Not sure but Morris 8 Series E bumpers may fit.

All the best

The bumpers as fitted to the MG Series Y were unique. The closest are those fitted to MG TD though these are not quite the same. The differences are the hole pattern for the mounting points (Y and did not have over riders either) so you may need to have holes filled and redrilled and the bumper rechromed. Additionally the Y bumpers on both Y/YT and YB had a slightly different profile (and the overriders were also different to MG TD too) than the profile of MG TD. MG TD profile is the same in terms of the lip curl over top and bottom (a short curl) whereas MG Series Y was short at the bottom and longer at the top.

Sources for MG TD include the usual Moss and NTG sources ... MG Y very scarce now indeed and your only bet is eBay (but be careful to ensure the seller really knows what they are selling and whether it is for MG Y or YT or MG YB as again the hole patterns are different and the mounting gear.

Thanks for your comments. At least I know what I'm up against now

I bow to Paul's greater knowledge!Though if you check Morris 8 Series E photos you will see that they are remarkably similar, except for the end profile and they only have 3 bolt fittings. On the first Y I owned in the early 70s the bumpers that I were in poor condition and I found a set of bumpers from a Ford Pop, or so I was told, which were in excellent condition and fitted them. It's quite possible that if they were indeed from a Ford that they were from an Anglia as those on a Pop weren't chromed. I have some photos of the Y so I'll post them on this site.

Otherwise you'll need to take Paul's advice and get some TD bumpers and fitting brackets. It might be worth advertising on John James's Totally T Type 2 website for a set.

Sincerely
Jerry
