MG MG Y Type - Y Type Brake Hose Thread

A little while ago I supplied a replacement lock nut to a chap who was replacing one of his flexible brake hoses. The locknut is for where the large end of the pipe goes through the small fixing bracket on the chassis.
He subsequently told me that it wouldn't fit as the thread was too fine for his NEW hose.
All original hoses were manufactured with an M16 x 1 fine thread pitch.
Does anybody know if modern replacement hoses have been re-manufactured with a different external thread to the large end.
If that is the case, then if New hoses are purchased with the matching lock nut, there is no problen(apart from a departure from originallity), but if new old stock hoses are held, new lock nuts will not fit. Quite often old lock nuts are badly corroded and have to be cut off, necessitationg replacement.
Any thoughts?

Questions to ask Keith are - where did you buy the hose and what part number is shown on your invoice for them? My guess he has something other than the right part. I too have never had a problem.

Thanks Graham and Paul for your response.
I think I have now found a possible answer to the confusion.
It would seem that re-manufactured hoses are available in USA, but with a modern thread on the larger diameter.See ebay item;

http://www.ebay.com/itm/350579236149?item=350579236149&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME:X:eRTM:MOTORS:1123&vxp=mtr

To quote "Three new brake hoses (two front and one rear), part number KL57422 (two front) and part number KL57428 (one rear). This fits

•MG 1 1/4 Litre Tourer 1949
*** The hoses include jam nuts for the bulk head end because the external thread has a different pitch ***"

There is no problem with this, apart from the deviation from originallity, so long as the two items are bought together.
Something to be aware off in the future.
Happy motoring.

Thanks for the update Keith and trust US to mess it up!

The following is so true of business and also so true of restoring and maintaining classic cars it is worth sharing here:

The law of business – by John Ruskin

"There is hardly anything in the world that someone cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price alone are that person's lawful prey.
It is unwise to pay too much, but it is also unwise to pay too little.
When you pay too much, you lose a little money, that is all.
When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought is incapable of doing the thing you bought it to do.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot ... It can't be done.
If you deal with the lowest bidder it is well to add something for the risk you run.
And if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better."
John Ruskin, 1819 – 1900

This is my maxim!!

Whilst I was at the NEC Classic Motor show yesterday, I checked out the brake hoses on the MG Octagon Car Club stand.
You will be releived to know that their hoses have been remanufactured to the original specification, ie with all the correct thread pitch and what's more they are made in England.
Cheers
