MG MG Y Type - YA fuel tank restoration.

I've just taken one end off my 70 year old fuel tank; the innards (see photo) are covered in a mixture of fairly light rust particles and other matter, yet to be identified. We plan to acid wash and coat the interior with lead solder, as this is said to be rust proof and resistant to any attack from fuels. This process is no more expensive than POR 15 or similar.
Another photo shows the test patch of tinning - the inside of one end.
The cost of this operation will probably make this a $500 fuel tank, but I think it's worth it, as this car is a keeper; and I'm not aware of anyone offering new replacement fuel tanks for that price.
The baffle which is there to stabilize the sender float has come adrift and will be fixed.
I'm keen to see a photo of the filter at the end of the pickup pipe - could a more experienced restorer point me towards such a picture? In any event, we'll access the cruddy old filter and replace it with a new one - again, if I can find a supplier.
Hope this is of interest, and all advice gratefully received.
Yours, John.

Hi John,
Greg at Fuel Tank Repair Services sells brass mesh filter material on eBay.
Just search super fine brass mesh.
Cheers Rob

As our petrol in the UK is about to have 10% ethanol added the tinned lining would corrode.
To quote Neil Cairnes.
Soon we are to have petrol with 10% Ethanol and this is a real worry as Ethonal is a rampant corrosive and will attack anything with tin in it, such as carburetter castings, soldered copper fuel pipes, man-made rubber fuel pipes if not ethanol proof. I did put a Government page on the FB page where we could give our veiws on its use, but I doubt if it will have any effect. You will be able to see what pump has it in as there must be a big 'E10' on it.

Peter not quite right it is thought that there
are at least a million cars not suitable for E10 and there is a gov directive to ensure there is a supply of E5 for the future for these cars.

Rob - first class info, thank you. I'll contact Greg today - in addition to the brass mesh, he will no doubt have a view on a lead solder tinned internal finish versus something like POR 15, keeping in mind PV's dire warning about ethanol. I did use POR 15 on a BGT tank, but of course there was no internal gauze filter to worry about there.
I didn't realise ethanol was such a "rampant corrosive" affecting so many fuel system parts.
Thanks all ... John.
