MG MG Y Type - YA Pinion Flange

In urgent need of a YA diff. pinion flange or information regarding a suitable substitute. Can anyone help? Many thanks, Jeff

Surely there are other models of car out there which would provide a suitable replacement. They all came from the Morris parts bin after all. Does anyone know if a Morris MO or Wolseley one would do. Didn't someone one draw up an alternative parts list which might help. I will try to find this for you in my MG library (a shelf full of books and printouts).

Thanks Tony, I'll keep you as a backstop if you don't mind! Jeff

Ian, yes I agree that there must be a substitute but I have not yet found one having tried several from a variety of other cars all of which have been too large on the spline. Jeff

I used to have a lot of Y-Type diff parts, but they are in demand for Pre-War MG P-Type cars that have a weaker diff so owners "upgrade" to a Y-diff.

I am assuming the diff flange is the front end casting of the diff housing where the prop shaft attaches.

I have checked the Alternative parts booklet and nothing re YA differentials https://mgyregistershop.co.uk/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=59_61&product_id=69

I have a spare YA axle which I have been keeping with the intention of one day swapping its diff, as mine sings to me. I don't think the song has got louder over the past 40,000 miles so I keep it, thinking that the spare one might sing even louder. Should I ever change it, I guess I could still use the original diff flange. What I am saying is I have one available in Gloucester for collection post lockdown.

Many thanks Peter, that's a very kind offer. However, it does seem that the drive flange for the YA diff. is now a rare item, as is the complete diff. for that matter (see Tony Slattery above). As kind as your offer is, I think it better that you hold onto it as the law of sods suggests that you will need it as soon as it leaves you! ATB, Jeff

Hi Guys,

A Morris 10 diff is identical to a YA except for the ratio. Hence the flange should be the same.

OK Tony, looks like I shall have to bite the bullet!
I have been unable to find a YA flange nor any of the very few alternatives. If you still have a YA flange please email me with the cost including the charge for delivery which ideally should not be via 3 legged camel!

Where about in Lincolnshire are you? I am just over the border in Nottinghamshire and have a friend with lots of Morris MO and Wolseley 6/80 bits. I suspect that one of these is the same. I could get in touch with him for you and find out. If you are not far away from Lincoln you could perhaps bring it over and compare it if he has one.

Here is one.

Check your emails Jeff.
