MG MG Y Type - YA rear end repair Panel?

I've just bare-metalled the rear end of the YA body, and have a problem with the panel approx. 60mm in width running full width of the body under the spare tyre lid. Sadly, the drain holes in the adjoining section of floor were blocked with goop by a p.o. and rust has perforated the outer panel, as well as the floor inside it. That piece of floor appears to be a separately spot-welded panel approx. 990mm x 200mm, with drain holes etc. patterned into it. Did I read somewhere of a ready-made rust repair section for this problem area? I've looked at the Register site and elsewhere, but need help. Anyone recall seeing a repair panel ?? With thanks ... John.

Try http://www.sportscarmetalworks.com I think they have had Y panels in the past.

No Y panels there unfortunately Peter. Thanks for the suggestion. John.

NTG show rear floor panel (no drain holes) and other bits which I think they get from sports car metalwork. I got a running board and door bottoms from NTG.

hi, ive rebuilt mine in that area and decided to make my own panel from sheet steel with very good results, at the time of doing mine 12 months ago i seem to remember that panel was around £600. From my previous experiences with classic cars its rare that a pattern panel is a good fit and much fettling to the car and panel is needed, i will try to upload a picture of the boot floor and fabricated rear panel, graham

my advice is to accuratly measure the width of the spare wheel opening before cutting the bottom section out as the sides can spring together slightly without you knowing, Graham

having problem submitting a third pic for some reason

also the bottom of the boot lid is shown on the first pic with the home made section welded in place, hope this helps Graham

Brian: thanks for that - yes, I noticed the absence of drain flutes - how ironic!
Graham: great photos, and I was worried about the "springing in" if we go too drastic with the angle grinder, so good advice. Interesting that your corner bottoms seem to be as frilly as mine! I'll post an update when my welding man has a closer look at the options, on Wednesday. Regards, John.
