MG MG Y Type - YA surprise

Running late for shift yesterday travelling up M3 northbound just prior to junction 9 I saw yesterday a trailer with an old car out the corner of my eye on the M3 southbound travelling slowly in traffic, with a careful crank of my neck, turning to my right was a gleaming, bright and shiny MG YA towering above the central reservation allowing me a better glimpse and partial sighting of the number plate. Friday rush hour on a UK motorway is the last place I'd expect to see a Y.

A quick check of emails and recent correspondence, I'm now in contact with new owner, thanks to the seller putting me in touch with new owner.
Made my day, so I thought share tale.

Kind of reminds me Richard of the time back while living in the UK I decided one day to drive my Y to work in Salisbury. Approaching Salisbury on the A36 where the road is two lanes and divided with a barrier I suddenly saw ... another Y going the other way! Completely unable to flip around and chase it down to this day I am still wondering who's car that was but it made me smile too.

Both those sightings above could have been me. Although I don't have a trailer, I did borrow one last year. And it was in Salisbury that I unearthed an original fuel pump, who knows?
So, if you found yourself down on Poole Quay last Sunday, then yes, you did see a YB mixing it with a bevvy of beauties. Come back on the 16th and we'll be there again, when Poole goes vintage. Don't forget to dress up.

My daughter has a place in West Kirby on the Wirral...one day the guy opposite parked what my daughter described as "an old car like mine"...it turned out to be a Y or YB which had gone by the time I got down there...I managed to speak to the owner but he said he kept it in a garage in Wales and said he 'didn't have the time to give me the details' and he hasn't registered it with this site of which he knew nothing and gave the impression of being somewhat disinterested.......I mean Y's are thin on the ground but when one turns up nearby its just 'sods law' that the owner is a bit odd and reclusive.

One can only ever try Dave. Sometimes people want to be "reclusive" and so we just have to respect that and move on, but always be welcoming and forgetful of such earlier encounters if and when they come back for help or whatever. I have learned in life that it is all way too short to hold a grudge and am very forgetful of such instances. :).

Keep on in the spirit of openness and friendship and enjoyment of your Ys folks. May your enthusiasm be contagious.

Not so much YA surprise as YB surprise. Paul has put up a reference to MG Kurier April 2017. There on the front page is my YB, http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/pdf/mgkurier0417.pdf I'm amazed. At the end of the article it also says: Reproduced with kind permission etc.
Not being a German speaker I can't tell if the car in the feature has anything to do with mine. I don't know whether to be flattered or shocked. Flattered I suppose, as the photo is in the public domain it doesn't need permission to reproduce it. But how gratifying it would have been to have had a credit for it. I'm not moaning Paul, just very surprised.

By the way, the car has been busy, very busy. I'll send you an update, probably end of October, early November.
R Taylor

Hi Robert

Hope you realize that I merely reprint the article as it was published. If there is a copyright issue with respect to your photograph you would have to take that up with the original publisher (the MG Car Club of Germany) or the author. I merely get their permission to reprint the articles which I do including, sometimes, the errors contained therein. There is an English translation coming so hopefully this will answer your questions.

Look forward to hearing from you with your update and it is a great photo by they way so congratulations!
