MG MG Y Type - YA/T parts list on CD eBay

Can anybody comment on the quality of this CD? Looks like a nice alternative for an original. (BTW: I'm in the market for a cheap(ish) complete original example....)

I have seen these a couple of times too. If they are properly indexed, it could be a good item. At worst they are just PDFs of a bad photocopy. If you go for one, perhaps you can advise the group?

I bought one a while ago. It is an Adobe pdf but I'm not sure if it is from a scan or a photocopy. Either way it is perfectly readable, the original index page is there and it has handwritten amendments and updates, presumably by the original owner. At less than a fiver it's certainly an acceptable alternative to an original.

Is the index hyperlinked - ie click on something in the index and it takes you to the section, or is it just a manual job?

Paul
Paul Barrow

I seem to recall that it's a «manual job»...

The diagrams are not extremely well scanned, but it's a helpful document for the price it costs.

Seeing as Copyright (they renew this periodically with BMW who own the rights) only is granted to the MGOCC I would very much doubt that the seller actually has permission to copy it!

Paul
Paul Barrow

Gilles is right, none of it is hyperlinked. I didn't realise it was still in copyright or I most certainly would never have purchased it. Do BMW own the rights? Does this extend to the replacement and reproduction parts sold through our Regalia page?
P S Sharp

I have one from the same seller for my TA and its a average sort copy from a octagon club manual.
And mine is indexed.
JRA Arkley

Not sure what you mean by "replacement and reproduction parts sold through our Regalia page" but none of our parts, or our doucuments that we publish are covered by the BMW or Ford Copyrights as none are original MG Publications with the exception of the First 500 miles booklet and that is a granted copy, however, all of our publications carry their own copyright, as does any material on the MG Y website at www.mgytypes.org.

Paul

I was just surprised that BMW owned rights to any MG publications and I wondered if this extended to our spares such as starting handle brackets or seat runners. Happily, as you say, it doesn't.

You are safe there!

I would be really surprised if BMW had a problem with someone selling parts lists for an obscure 55-year-old M.G.
Steve Simmons

Steve-

Don't be too quick, as I recall it was only a few years ago that 'Disney' went after a pre-school/day care centre for using the 'characters' on the walls without '''copyright'''' permission. Never say never, when the almighty dollar/yen/pound,etc.is involved. If BMW thought they could reap a couple of marks, they would be on it.

Paul

Hope you found room to store the Y
Paul Gaynor

Sure, but the difference there is that the Disney characters are current profit-making items. I bet there is no one at corporate BMW who has even heard of an MG Y-Type!
Steve Simmons

I think someone there must have heard of the Y Type because I heard recently that they have a plan to build an updated version, just like they did with the Mini.
