MG MG Y Type - YA wiper cable.

When I removed the wiper wheelboxes and cable from Y3348 years ago, I noticed there were only 2 of the collars fitted at the end of the protective sleeve.Their function being to stop slippage of the outer sleeve. There is provision for several collars - at the end of each section of outer sleeve, plus one in the gear casing. Does anyone know where I might obtain some more of these little collars to finish my installation?
In the picture below, I've placed the collar in its slot to the left for illustration, not attached to the sleeve end on the right.
Thank you ... John.

what holds the collar in there--
do they have pieces to fit in the grooves of the cable
how many do you need

Willy, the collar is a press fit on the end of the cable sleeve.
The ever-reliable Tony Slattery here in Qld has come up with 3 collars for me, so I probably only need a couple more.

John.

sorry for all the questions, I was sure I had a spare old wiper assy, which you could have had, but I can't find it,
I'll have another look tomorrow
cheers

Totally fine thanks, Willy - I think I’m right now with one at the gearbox plus one either side of the gearboxes, making 5 in all - which I will have when Tony sends me three.
A petty matter in the overall scheme of things, but I enjoy the detail!
Yours,
John.

Well after a little search through my spares box of wiper cables (four sets) and three Saloons in my garage (not all my cars !), it appears that the original setup only had two collars - one on each end of the conduit from the motor to the first wheelbox.

The conduit between the two wheelboxes and the tail conduit have no collars fitted, so you have not "lost" anything John - Carry on with your resto !.

You can add that one to the file of trivia on Y-Types !.

So what Tony points out is that apparently, in the configuration of the Y types, the securing collar was only needed on each end of the longest run of wiper cable, to keep the outer sleeve from slipping in action. The mid-section and the little tail section of cable were too short to worry. It’s likely that in larger vehicles with a longer run of wiper cable across the cabin, more securing collars were used. I’m thinking some of the larger saloons of the day, such as Armstrong-Siddeley, Triumph, Rover and of course the big wide Jags. I would guess that the wheel boxes used in the MGY would also be found in other makes of the period.
Enough of this ... I just love the trivia! Thanks Tony for your prompt advice. John.
