MG MG Y Type - Ya Wire wheel hubs

Ive contacted Orson equipment today and they are going to make me a pair of wire wheel hubs for the rear of my Ya special. (I use MGA on the front)

These will bolt onto the outside of the drum and are for my 16" wire wheels that have a curly centre. These will have the correct holes and nuts for our studs, but the studs will need to be shortened. The hubs will be in EN16 steel will have a 12tpi spinner. I dont see any reason why these would not work on the front too. Larger batches will of course also improve the price!!

Mark,

MGYA wheels have a 5 stud PCD of 112mm which is the same as the Ford Granada. Below is link to motor wheel service which supply a 42mm 8TPI splined hub ford granada hub. The size of the centre hole in the hub would require checking to ensure the hub will fit on the drum but they are only £57.60p each. They also supply 16" wire wheels to fit on these hubs.

This may be a cheaper option for you.

Hi Chris

Orson actually seem to make the MWS ones. We did try the granada one, but the holes are very large and would need a special nut, expect they are designed for m12x1.5mm ford studs. It also looked that we needed a little extra offset (longer adaptor). The other complication is that I wanted 12tpi thread to go with my front adaptors.

They currently have my wheel, hub and drum to make sure it all goes together.

Thanks

Mark

Thanks for the info Mark, I may decide to go down the same route sometime in the future, wallet permitting. I think the YA would look good with 16" wires, I could also then fit radial tyres to improve the handling. Can you let me know if they intend to supply in the future and estimated cost per hub.

Kind Regards Chris

Hi

I have feedback from Orson. In std EN8 material the hub is coming out at £110 each plus VAT. It is a special hub design that is approx 1/2" longer than the granada hub and will have a 12tpi spinner. I dont need them to work on the front, but will let orson have a front hub too to check it.

Mark please let me know if the hubs you are having made fit the front hub as well as the rear ones .

Hi Chris

Hubs should be made in the next few weeks, so if you need some let ORson know.

I will check for front wheel fitment when I get the rear pair. Im using MGA front so not a problem for me. Ref my wheels they came off ebay. However They have a curly centre hub which is like an AC ace.

Thanks
