MG MG Y Type - YB for sale on US E-Bay

I found this on the T Type Register!
No doubt Paul knows of this car.It would appear to have been in the ownership of the vendor since the 1970's.The impression is that it hasn't been used since that date - which is over 30 years ago - but has been kept in dry conditions.

The bid at present is around £3k and there are four days to go! I doubt any UK based individual would be interested - is it known to the Register Jack? The cost of importing from Texas would be around £1250 plus VAT (one might be able to get reduced VAT to 5% from Customs and Excise). Just looking at the pics there appears to be a considerable amount of work to do to recommission the car (brakes, engine, tyres etc etc). Probably better to pay around £6-7k to get a good, running example in the UK.

Just thought that it might be of interest!

Sincerely

Hi Jerry and Willem

Thank you for the "heads up" on this - it was unknown to me before hand ... but be sure I will try to contact the seller via eBay communications. 90% of the time they ignore requests purely for info ... but that doesnt stop me asking :-)

Seller has said they will send me info so that is a good move. We should ensure they dont now get inundated with similar requests - I know we all want to know what car this is though!

Thanks

Have had a bit of a free day whilst saying goodbye to my youngest daughter who has left to go travelling for six months - always an emotional moment!

I tracked the YB on e-bay - it made $8.6k or £5,255 which seems a lot when you think what appears to need to be done. The car has been off the road for over 30 years so recommissioning is not likely to be straightforward.

Perhaps it has some historic interest?

Sincerely

Jerry

Jerry, strong money indeed!

Maybe high by EU standards where Ys are more common given what is needed to be done. However if you factor in that it will cost you about $1500 to import one here once that is deducted it was still a bargain.

I will be working with the seller and hopefully the buyer to ensure that this car is nicely restored to glory.
